Today we’d like to introduce you to Monroe Beauty By Mauro.
Hi Mauro. I am so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My first contact with the beauty world was in my very early life – as a kid. Being Brazilian, I accompanied my mother to her daily appointments, including the nail salon, hairdressers, massage spas, and medical and dermatology offices. Everything related to beauty and self-care was magical and eye-catching, from watching professionals work and move in a certain way to the vivid and colorful product labels. Everything set an incredible environment for my imagination. For that reason, I’ve become a beauty professional and esthetician myself.
One interesting thing about me is that I can do a wide number of things: I’ve been a school athlete; during college, I worked with the government; I’ve done academic research; I’ve worked as a teacher and private tutor; I’ve been a makeup artist; I’ve done overseas voluntary work with school children and in orphanages; I’ve worked as a customer service representative; and finally I’ve studied and mastered myself to become a permanent makeup artist. Being around and doing a set of different stuff has taught me to know myself and to always go for what makes me truly happy. When you see me working and talking about what I do, that will certainly come across – at least it does when I practice and talk in the mirror (lol).
Bottom line, Monroe Beauty represents all that I am and all that I see fit for a modern and globalized citizen, to be part of a community and to help make it grow and blossom through diversity and shared experiences. My goal is to spread self-love and to teach people to appreciate themselves. My motto – Let’s Shine – invites all people to show their truth and respect and protect one another.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been adventurous, with many challenges and obstacles. But challenges and obstacles are specially made to help us evolve and adapt, and if we learn to face these difficulties optimistically, there will be a lot for us to use in the end. As a foreigner, understanding my client’s needs and expectations is complex, and there’s always something new. Also, establishing yourself as a business in a new community may impose many complex tasks. But with time and will, all is possible! Those struggles will make me an even better and more complete professional.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m very excited to talk about what I do. As many say, my expertise is lips micro pigmentation, or Lip Blush. The technique combines tattoo abilities with makeup artistry – all applied to the face architecture and specific proportions. The result is a magnificent look that highlights the lip’s features and balances out what may appear to be a flaw. My signature technique – Real Lips – is designed to grant natural and healthy-looking lips that will solve your pale (or stained) complexion issue but also doesn’t prevent you from wearing different makeup or creating different paint on your face.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
I follow many accounts on social media that help me think outside the box and instigate my creativity. I also use creation apps such as Sketchbook to help me boost my creativity and, of course, to aid in my practice. I like to train in drawing and hand movement, the first on the apps and the latter mainly on silicone skin.
