Conversations with Nicole Wilcox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Wilcox.

Hi Nicole, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started DJing because I wanted to make use of me going out and spending money all the time. So I learned from others DJs like Michael Vic, my uncle Gary and YouTube. I then started to do small house parties and gatherings, and that was about 6 years ago. I have done major events like concerts for Saucy Santana to pride events in ATL. Last year I turned my DJing into a business called Blazee Entertainment, where I continue to perfect my craft and expand my brand.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Things have been challenging, especially being in a male-dominated profession. I’m in a city where talent doesn’t always get you to where you feel you should be but more so favoritism, so that it can be not very encouraging at times. The business was also slow during Covid, so reestablishing gigs and business relationships was difficult.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Blazee Entertainment is more than just a DJing service. I help manage, develop and promote other artists. Throw, host parties, and offer staffing services to help other DJs and artists get booked for gigs. I specialize in creating and maintaining a vibe that people can come and be themself, losing themselves in the moment, even for a few minutes. I have done free or charity events to help out because I love what I do. I am proud of myself for staying consistent, my growth over the years, and the relationships I have built surrounding this business. What sets me apart is my humbleness, always willing to help others, and although money plays a big part in business, I don’t allow it to drive or control me.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is having stability in all aspects of my life, being unapologetically happy, helping people along the way, and accomplishing all that I set out to do.
