Today we’d like to introduce you to Niko Corey.
Hi Niko, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My interest in photography first started with 35mm film. I bought a Pentax ME Super for $20 and it changed my life. One of my best friends at the time was big into film photography and really got me hooked. After messing around with that camera for a while I was gifted a Sony NEX mirrorless camera from my wife. From their things took off. I got into lifestyle and family photography in my hometown of Madison, WI. Once my wife and I started to see how much fun it was we started a boudoir studio in our home. We have now relocated to the Orlando; Florida area and I am now exploring more forms of photography.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Once I moved into boudoir, it got a little tough to find customers. As a male photographer, it seemed tough to have a steady flow of clients. Having my wife by my side and her being a big part of the process seemed to help. Since moving to Orlando, I do find it hard at times to get out and network to meet new potential clients.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have really moved into street and automotive/motorsport photography. Being in Florida has really opened up some doors for me to be creative without needing a client to collab with. I am still very much into boudoir photography and plan to open back up once I get another studio. Due to me starting my photography career with a 35mm film camera, I have a great eye for exposure and being able to manipulate light to get a great shot.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Josh Barraza. He was the one who really got me into photography through 35mm film. He taught me so much about the process of photography and printing. I would not be where I am today without him! He is a great friend and mentor.
