Hi Nola D, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an honorable retired, disabled veteran. After serving in the military, I became a business mentor for local businesses in her community. I’ve done numerous business development workshops to help local businesses in her community to thrive economically. I am an award-winning African American Female Kulutral Filmmaker. I also co-directed and co-produced the award-winning film New Panther A Call For Action. NPACFA is a film about a collective of people coming together for change in their community.

I am the creator, director, and coproducer of Diasporans Hidden Kulture film. DHKulture is a series of films in which I travel around America to highlight the African American Kulture. I am the co-founder of the nonprofit film production company Diaspora Whispers. Dwhispers is a Kultral film production company that creates continents about different ethnicities and their kulture.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Struggles: being a female, being an African American female, start-up cost of an independent filmmaker.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a filmmaker, I specialize in creating Kulture films. I’m known for creating multicultural educational content for my community. I am proud of producing films that I am most passionate about because I have creative control.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The pandemic shut a lot of big productions and theaters. The shutdown forced many independent filmmakers like myself to think of alternatives distribution platforms to put my films. We’ve seen a rise in streaming platforms due to the pandemic and I’m excited to explore these many alternative distribution platforms.
