Today we’d like to introduce you to Oliver Oetterer.
Hi Oliver, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Last year, a great friend of mine told me he bought a taptruck. I was immediately intrigued since I’ve been serving beers at my parent’s backyard parties since I was 5 years old. (This was in Germany,:-) ) The lynchpin for me was that he bought a 1935 truck and that he had 5 taps for beer coming right out of the side of the truck. After extensive research about Florida’s liquor laws (I spent a lot of money on lawyers), and seeing if there was any competition in central Florida, I jumped in and bought the rights to Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. I finally received my restored 1960 Ford F100 panel truck in January and have been setting up the business and finally doing some events. Walk, Crawl, Run. The response has been overwhelming. When we drive ‘Big Red’ people honk, wave, give us the thumbs up and even roll down their windows to talk. I’d love to share my story more in-depth.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh boy, The biggest issue pertained to liquor laws and what, and how to get the right license. It was definitely an expensive struggle.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been in professional sales my entire career. That career has spanned from being an individual contributor to COO. During that time I’ve trained 100s of salespeople, a good chunk of them, became successful. I’ve also built several businesses, always in an area that I enjoy. I’m most proud of having built Motorola’s first international software division and in the process closed 2 of the largest international deals. I’m teaching and practice consultative relationships selling. People buy from people and that’s what’s going to make TapTruck Orlando so successful. My wife, who is the co-owner, and I love to entertain, and now we can do so with a totally new venue, and make some money in the process.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Not for my professional career. I’m usually so busy and at the end of the day, I just want to cook dinner, BBQ and sit down with a good beer.
