Conversations with Oscar Chirinos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Chirinos.

Hi Oscar, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My professional career began in the television channel RCTV in Venezuela in 1999, where I began as an assistant in the production of dramatic “soap operas”. I always liked Directing Actors a lot, and this made me join the channel’s directors to learn from them. In 2002 I went to Barcelona, Spain to study Cinema where I became a Film and TV Director, among other courses that I took, giving me an endorsement to return to Venezuela and seek the position that I had always wanted to have … Director. I returned to RCTV looking for a new opportunity for professional growth and started working again in the Dramaticos management where I was given the chance to trade as a Production Assistant. It was not the position I wanted but I knew it was the basis for reaching my goal. And make no mistake, I was promoted to Outdoor Producer in less than a year and to Director in two years.

I was assigned to the management of new RCTV projects as Director of Foreign Affairs until 2006, the year the channel was closed in Venezuela. The closure of RCTV was not going to stop me from continuing to grow and I turned my north to work as a freelancer, but this time as Assistant Director of commercials. This style of work gave me the opportunity to study editing and other areas that I wanted to refine, in addition to working on the projects that encouraged me to continue growing and improving my work style.

In 2012 I went to belong to the staff of Directors of the telenovela Las Bandidas co-production of the companies RCTV (now a soap opera producer), Televisa (Mexico) and RTI (Colombia), without a doubt a great experience.

When I finished this production, I realized that I could create my production company … Q FilmsCo. And again, I got on the boat but this time with my own business.

I dedicated myself to creating corporate and commercial videos for companies but innovating the way of making audiovisual pieces.

In 2017 I had to emigrate to Argentina, managing to make all the audiovisuals of the Latin American Soccer 3 Festival in Buenos Aires. World Cup that opened the doors for me to continue growing professionally. I also made videos for Polo tournaments and many more corporate audiovisuals.

I currently live in Orlando, a city that I love, I dedicate myself to making videos and personal brand photography.

Today I am very proud of what I have achieved, it has been a difficult road but I remain convinced that with perseverance and passion you can go far. I always thank all the people who helped me and those who did not, the first for giving me the tools and learning and the second for giving me more strength to continue and show me that I could achieve it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Without a doubt, it was not an easy road. A path full of people who did not believe in me, but with work and my dedication I managed to achieve their respect.

At RCTV they did not believe in me as a director and they told me that they could not give me the position because I did not have directing studies. I had studied Marketing, nothing to do with the direction of TV, which made me give up the channel and go to study in Spain … I finally succeeded.

I think that one must set goals, work on them and achieve them. It will never be easy but when you arrive, it is a great satisfaction.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
They are already more than 20 years on the road. I have worked with great actors, athletes and businessmen.

I specialize in creating and making audiovisual pieces that remain in people’s memory. I love being behind the camera, being able to tell stories in a way that the message reaches the people who see the audiovisual. Seeing people’s faces is priceless …

I have a very own style where I mix many techniques but the end result is very fresh.

But what defines me is a documentary and cinematic style, with beautiful shots and many details.

I feel that the people who have worked with me or hired me again hire me because they like the way I work and what I can generate with an idea. I have the power to resilience difficult things hahahaha

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I suffer from dyslexia. But this is not something that stops me, on the contrary this makes me more detailed.
