Conversations with Patricia M. LeGrow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia M. LeGrow.

Hi Patricia M., we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved photography. Whether it was using my original film SLR to where I am now with digital and mirrorless, it was always something I had a passion for. Growing up, I was always known as the documenter/photographer among my friends. I always wanted to ensure everything was documented because that’s all we might have left. I also grew up in the film industry, as my dad has been a director and cinematographer all my life. So I learned a lot about the industry by working with him and being on set. And for me, being able to be a part of projects like that has always been fun and is a true passion of mine. Even though I’ve been part of the industry for nearly a decade, it wasn’t until earlier this year that I decided to branch out officially. I had waited long enough, and photography has always brought happiness to my life, so I thought, why not? And I’m so happy I did because now I can spend the rest of my life chasing my true passion and still make a great living.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Initially, I worked in both freelance and off-and-off production sets. I’d always been using photography to cope with whatever life has thrown me, and it almost became a form of therapy. It’s something that I enjoy doing as I get to create something out of nothing and capture something special. The only thing I have struggled with at times is a need for more inspiration or motivation. This was especially difficult at the start of the pandemic when we were all on lockdown. Having to use your surroundings and maneuver that while being a digital creator was quite challenging, to say the least.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a creative portrait photographer specializing in portraits, couples, families, and weddings. I’m most proud of being able to quickly adapt when need be and to be able to capture magical moments and tell a story with my clients. What sets me apart from others is that my voice and story are unique. I don’t try to be anyone else but who I am. I enjoy making people smile and love telling a story through imagery.

What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I started my path in photography with film, so it’ll be interesting to go back to it and incorporate that into my workflow. There will likely be a big shift in the film, as I’m seeing it already. People will also take more stock of who they’re hiring as photographers because, as I’ve mentioned, these photos will sometimes be all left of people, places, and things. And it’s essential to have a creative that understands that and is inspired by people’s stories to capture their magic.
