Today we’d like to introduce you to Phil and Jennifer Dalhausser.
Hi Phil and Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We moved to Orlando three years ago from California to escape the ridiculous cost of living in California. Our goal is to develop an East Coast hub for beach volleyball. So many people feel the need to move to Manhattan or Hermosa, California, to pursue their dreams of playing beach volleyball. And most just end up in crazy amounts of debt. We want people to feel that they can still pursue their passion of beach volleyball, right here in Orlando… where the cost of living is much more affordable. Beach volleyball is also a collegiate sport for women now, so scholarships and opportunities are just expanding in the sport! We hope to encourage kids, of all ages, to follow their dreams, work hard, make mistakes and learn from all of it. We offer a fun and safe place for them to fall in love with the sport.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, we started in January 2020… ran our practices for a very brief time before we were shut down due to Covid. However, we feel very fortunate to have our facility at Boxi Park, where they have been amazing to work with. Starting any new business will come with lots of opportunities to learn what works as a company and what doesn’t. We have learned to pivot and change certain practices, age groups, etc. but all and all… it’s been a very positive experience. Parents and players have been great through all the learning stages!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Phil and I have both played beach volleyball at professional levels. Phil has played and succeeded at the highest level possible… for a very long time. We specialize in coaching beach volleyball. We are creating an environment where kids can feel safe to make mistakes and try new things! We try to keep it fun and positive. There’s no yelling or demanding perfection. We are teaching kids to be their biggest cheerleaders, to be comfortable being uncomfortable… that’s where the growth happens! and beach volleyball is a sport that is hard not to fall in love with. 🙂
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is when you have let go of comparison. It comes from constantly trying to be your best self. That is our definition of success.
