Conversations with Rachel Blaise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Blaise.

Rachel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had the desire to be a teacher since I was a little girl. Teaching and nurturing have always been in my nature. I was the cousin who taught all my little cousins dance routines to the popular songs back in the day. I was the little sister who babysat the children of my older siblings. My sister and I even use to pretend to be teachers when we were younger, in the teachers’ lounge (at the dinner table) sharing our experiences about our “students”. “Lol

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a tutor has not always been easy. Some challenges that I have faced along the road would be students who have different needs than the service I offer or the inconsistencies I’ve faced when it comes to attendance. One of my biggest challenges I will say would be trying to conduct sessions through the COVID pandemic last year. Libraries were closed for months and I had to reevaluate my whole system for tutoring.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
1 on 1 Tutoring Program is my professional passion, I refrain from calling it “work” or a “business” because I never started it with that intent, I just love what I do. I provide academic assistance for students from grades K-7th. Whether it’s assistance with algebra homework, working on science projects, or enhancing reading skills, I do it all. What sets me apart from other tutoring programs is that I assist each child individually. Every child’s needs are different so providing that 1 – on – 1 atmosphere allows me to cater to each child’s specific needs. What makes me the most proud is seeing the growth and progress in my students and knowing that my help has really made a positive impact in their academic and learning journey…

Any big plans?
My next goal in my profession is to give 1-on-1 Tutoring Program a home. Right now, I travel to different local libraries and bookstores. I have even conducted sessions at student’s homes through the pandemic. My goal is to provide a set local, my own location, for kids to obtain the help that they need.
