Today we’d like to introduce you to Rana Abbas.
Hi Rana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I came to the USA in 2016 and did not speak English. I started school in Michigan and earned my Master’s in clinical mental health counseling, graduating in 2021. I got my license in MI and signed a job offer in MI. My husband decided to relocate to Florida, so I had to go back to school to complete a few courses, then take a different Exam and get my license. I worked in a psychology office and then I decided to move on my own. I updated my credentials, obtained insurance, rented an office, and started my practice in June 2024.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Adjusting to life in a new country while not speaking the language can be one of the most humbling experiences a person can face. As a single mother of two, balancing the demands of a full-time job and full-time studies has required incredible perseverance and determination. Relocating to Florida meant starting over—adapting to a new environment, preparing for licensing exams, and returning to school to complete additional courses. Each challenge has been a test of strength, patience, and resilience, proving that with dedication and hope, even the most difficult transitions can become powerful stories of growth and empowerment.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, holding licenses in Florida, Michigan, Arizona, Washington, and Virginia. As a certified EMDR therapist, I specialize in providing individualized care through evidence-based approaches. My practice includes individual, couples, and family counseling, with a focus on helping clients heal, grow, and build meaningful connections.
Any big plans?
Looking ahead, I am deeply committed to continuing my professional growth and expanding my practice to reach even more individuals and families in need of compassionate care. My vision is to develop Mind Balance Counseling LLC into a leading center for mental health and wellness—one that fosters healing, resilience, and empowerment across communities. Alongside this journey, I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Counseling and Education at Walden University to advance further my expertise, research, and ability to contribute to the field. My goal is to continue making a meaningful impact—one client, one conversation, and one breakthrough at a time.
