Conversations with Raquel Ramos-Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Ramos-Rodriguez

Hi Raquel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello. My name is Raquel but I am known as “Rocky” the curly hair specialist. I was raised in a family of 10 siblings and I am the youngest. My everyday life was always filled with some kind of excitement! And I would always watch and admire my oldest sisters during their 80s and 90s beauty regimens. I always dreamed of one day being able to jump into those neon tights and spray my hair to the highest it could go. Thank God it was out of style by the time I came of age! I started in the beauty industry over 15 years ago. My first job was a nail technician in a hair salon. As I worked on nails I couldn’t help but to admire the hairstylist and of course this is where it all started. On occasion I would assist the master stylist and it was then where she noticed that I might just have what it takes. There were many challenges to overcome, first school and the financial burdens that came with it. I have 3 sons 2 whom have special needs and many sacrifices had to be made in order to get my career going. I am blessed to have the opportunity of working at Stella Luca Salon. It was my second salon that I’ve ever worked for and that’s where I’ve been for the last 10 years. I’ve been very fortunate to have gained so many clients and co workers that are now considered family. I fought hard and learned many skills in the hair beauty industry and would not have it any other way. Along with becoming a curly hair specialist I have mastered many more techniques and have a happy client following. I am happy that I make others happy and confident. I couldn’t have asked for a more fulfilling career and I’m looking forward to what the future has to bring for myself and my family.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some obstacles along the way was going to school while working and taking care of my family.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a curly hair specialist! I’ve always wanted to help people with their curly hair. Being a curly girl myself I remember growing with not a lot of guidance and knowledge about curly hair. So when I was in school I decided to make curly hair my specialty! And now I am one out of a few curly hair specialist in the Winter park/ Orlando area.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I am the youngest of 10 and I used to watch my older sisters while they would get ready. When I was in high school I was the friend that you would go to get you hair done.
