Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Johnson.
Hi Richard, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography in 2004. I worked as a production assistant between shoots, so I needed to find something more stable. I was walking through the mall and saw that the portrait studio was looking for photographers. In 2006, we started Spectacle Photo as the content arm of a web company called Spectacle, which Shawn Vincent began to do.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Nothing worth doing is easy. There were many bumps along the way, and it would be foolish to think there wouldn’t be any obstacles in the future. As they say, “Smooth seas don’t make skillful sailors.” The most challenging lesson I learned is that other people’s successes are not my failures and that I should stop neglecting the only thing that truly separates me from everyone else: my ideas. Helping other photographers will help your business. Anyone can buy the gear you use to create, but they can’t buy the concepts, techniques, and manner in which you treat your clients.
Thanks for sharing that. Can you tell us more about your work next?
I am a creator who specializes in photography, branding, and marketing. I specialize in portraits, headshots, and personal projects that invoke conversations. My work is known for telling the story of those who give me the privilege of photographing them. What sets me apart is my goal always to put the project first and my genuine desire to help others tell their story in the most impactful way. I am most proud of learning to put my ego aside and help others discover the joys of creating and everything photography offers.

My family matters most to me. They inspire me daily, keep me motivated, and remind me how far I have come.
