Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Doris.
Hi Robin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Thank you so much for the opportunity! I’m the Senior Operations Manager at a wonderful company called “medigi”. We are a unique e-commerce marketplace that allows healthcare providers to easily source treatments directly from pharmaceutical manufacturers nationwide. One of my many functions at medigi from its inception has been to create engaging social media content and medigi is extremely supportive of my talents.
I’m a native Floridian, born in Miami and slowly moved further north, finally landing in Orlando. I am also a proud mother and grandmother. I think I’ve been an artist all of my life. Anything artistic or design related just sets off sparks in my brain and I have to create. I’ve been in social media and design for over 15 years, posting on various social platforms for a number of companies. I worked on Photoshop when the program first came out and have been learning and perfecting my skills on a constant basis. Early on I realized that the Adobe design programs were an incredible tool for putting all of the ideas in my head into workable designs. I feel like a canvas that is perpetually updated and added to. I don’t ever want to remain stagnant and try to add skills and ideas to my repertoire. I’m happiest when I have a project that I’m busy tweaking.
I like to think outside of the box– the weirder the better. I like funky and strange and bold. Of course, I can do minimal and more sedate. Sometimes that’s the space my brain is in and it’s totally workable. I decided recently that there were so many images wallowing around in my head that I needed an outlet so I created a separate Instagram, Facebook, website, and LinkedIn page for what I named missile toad. Missile Toad is my ideal space to showcase this brain child – for myself and anyone who wants to have something different designed for them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The bumpy roads are why I drive a Jeep! Smooth roads have their place but it’s the bumpy roads that are more fun to conquer. Everyone struggles with something but I see struggles as the things that make us stronger, help us learn, and push us to be bigger and better than we were before the struggle. Sometimes in this particular niche, the challenge is to prove yourself the best artist for the job.
I like challenges. I don’t feel like I’m constantly struggling, I feel like I’m constantly progressing and that’s a good feeling. I try to accomplish something new every day and have a positive attitude about my craft and my skills.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a lot of fun with social media. I find it to be an incredible space for expression. There’s so much opportunity to be creative on such a constant basis. Also, the internet and social media are ever-changing and such a diverse microcosm that there is literally no end to places to derive inspiration from. I also enjoy creating newsletters and brand identity.
The artist and design community on the internet is vast and incredibly talented. What I’m most proud of is my ability to deliver on time, really creative outside-the-box ideas that would fit a variety of spaces. What sets me apart? I think part of it is my lack of fear! I love, love, love to do the unexpected, weird, funky type of thing that you would never think of, but say “OMG!! That’s what I meant!” I would like to take your idea and make it out of this world, different, stand out dynamite.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My sheer determination! If I’m told I can’t- be sure that I will. I have a dogged steadfastness that has aided me in almost all areas of my life. I don’t think I’m capable of quitting or giving up. I will pivot and reassess but I will not give up.
Also, I think my thirst for learning and constant desire to better myself in design and the process and tools necessary to achieve the freshest ideas and visuals. It’s so important to stay on top of what’s new in the field, what’s current and on-trend, and not some stale re-cycled idea that’s been done a million times.
