Today we’d like to introduce you to Roman Mims.
Hi Roman, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from Cleveland Ohio, East Cleveland Heights area. I relocated to Florida from my wife’s and I military career in Portsmouth Va and Clayton Ga. We chose Florida because my wife and I think it’s a great place to raise a family, being a culturally diverse area.
I got into the business of real estate as a realtor because I was always fascinated with houses and how people live., and I love helping people achieve the dream of owning their own home. Land is the only thing that God is not making any more of, and I think it’s a great way to create generational wealth if the approach to the business is done correctly.
I don’t want to stop at being a realtor, I want to learn as much as I can and become a developer eventually in the Kissimmee and the Orlando area.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No! The road is far from smooth; it’s a lot of perseverance and follow up and focus. As a husband and a father of two the journey can be complicated. I try to find a balance between being a good husband and father. My family is important to me so keeping balance and respecting time can be a task in itself.
With so many realtors in the area, helping people can be complicated because they have had bad experiences with the prior realtors, or they may have read somewhere that they can do it themselves. I’m not into convincing people because that’s when people sound like everyone else, and I try my best to make sure I’m different in my approach because my clients are more than a number to me. I like to show that I actually care for my clients and their well-being.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work in Residential and Commercial Real Estate. I build relationship with people who are looking to sale and purchase homes for residential I do well on both sides of the transaction; I think specific niches in real estate at the residential level limits the knowledge needed to navigate the negotiation process of a residential contract as a commercial agent I pride myself in knowing the numbers. A lot of people are afraid of the math that comes with doing these deals. In understanding the investors point of view in a commercial is very important because you are helping another individual manage Thousands and sometimes millions of dollars at a time.
My first deal is the one that I am most proud of. The reasoning behind it was my clients had been trying to sell it on their own for a year and couldn’t get what they wanted for it. When they decided to work with me, I was able to navigate the details by myself and get their home under contract in 14 days and closed in 28. My diligence allowed them to relocate to their kids and grandchildren, we still communicate regularly to this day!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’ve played semiprofessional basketball overseas and stateside. I played basketball with USA Team Select coached by Sean Kilmartin and was drafted to the London Capitals in the BBL, I also played in the EBA for Harrisburg Horizon and The ABA for with the Cleveland Rockets. Along with making the first cut for the D League Lake Erie Bayhawks.
