Conversations with Sharnecia “Necie Jayy” Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharnecia “Necie Jayy” Jones.

Hi Sharnecia “Necie Jayy”, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Fort Pierce, FL. Throughout grade school, I participated heavily in chorus, and I sang in my grandfather’s church. Starting out, I was very shy in the spotlight. I was always nervous that I would do too much or too little, but I always felt that singing was my gift to share. It wasn’t until after I moved to Orlando for college that I began to actively work on my stage fright, and I truly blossomed as an artist. I started booking small singing engagements and getting connected within the city.

And you ask, “How did I get to where I am today?” Well, I had a few wake-up calls that helped me to see life differently. I’d had enough of experiencing life in an unfulfilling way. So, I started focusing on the things that crippled my advancement and leaned on my village to keep me accountable for overcoming them. Honestly, it’s still a work in progress, but I’m deeply proud of what I’ve accomplished thus far.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is any road to success smooth? It has not been an easy road, but the difficulties have not been only for reasons like the pandemic.

All jokes aside, it’s work! This journey requires inner work that will make you want to quit. There are so many things that I’ve learned about myself, and every new thing adds something to my list to work on. When I share my gift through song, writing, or (one day) acting, I want people to feel and see the authenticity. I realize that this is something I have to work on daily.

Besides that, there are challenges with getting my name out to the right people and being ready when they call. I learned that you HAVE to have faith and follow through!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, I am an artist. Singing is my driving passion, but I’ve got a few other creative tricks up my sleeve in the arts realm. I’m also a freelance virtual assistant and there, I specialize in small businesses, online boutique launching, and special projects.

What sets me apart is that, in most cases, people feel comfortable around me. People feel like they can either be themselves or they’re understood. It comes out when I sing, when I write, and when I work with my clients. I believe it’s what connects me with others.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories are centered around family and holidays. I’ve always wanted to be like my grandmothers and aunts when I got older. I’d have everyone over for the holidays. We’d cook, laugh, and do karaoke together. Spending time with my loved ones means a lot to me.
