Today we’d like to introduce you to Shinobi Stalin.
Hi Shinobi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Orlando from the Bronx when I was 4 years old. I grew up on the east side of town. I got into Hip-hop through my upbringing in the Bronx, my older brother, and skateboarding. I started rapping at 12 years old and in high school started hitting open mics like the Hush show to sharpen my skills.
Through the years, I have performed all over the city, country, and overseas. I have released 7 projects independently.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been smooth. Doing things on your own is hard. Orlando’s music scene is great but often overlooked by most because of our proximity to Tampa and Miami. Adapting to online marketing to then having to play the algorithm game is tough.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an Emcee and make beats. I make music about my life. I’m more self-aware than most rappers. I also make music I like to listen to. I am not influenced by trends.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
You have to jump off the cliff. My crew (Beer Money UNLTD) takes risks in what we make music about. We made an album dedicated to the video game Street Fighter 2. Every time you release music to the public you are taking a risk.
