Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Cordner, AArica Ardis, and Meagan Allen. Them and their team share their story with us below:
3mpowered (pronounced “Empowered”) is an Orlando-based female singing group that performs covers of pop/R&B songs. Tatiana is the leader and founder of 3mpowered, which is a different kind of singing group. 3mpowered was founded in January 2018 by Tatiana because Tatiana wanted to form a singing group that showcased a group of women that younger females could look up to in this community. Tatiana wanted the group to sing mainly empowerment songs that would remind women of their value and worth. Tatiana and two other female singers met up on January 21, 2018, sang together in a car in the parking lot of a Starbucks and 3mpowered was formed.
3mpowered has gone through a few lineup changes over the years, but the current lineup consists of the three of us (Tatiana, AArica, and Meagan). We really want this group to reflect females in a positive light and be positive role models for females in the community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been some struggles along the way. As mentioned previously, we have gone through some lineup changes because the most challenging issue has been finding members who are committed. Being in a girl group looks very fun and effortless to the outside world, but in reality, it is difficult and takes a lot of hard work, practice & dedication. We all work full-time and then after work, we practice, and sometimes we don’t get out of practice until close to midnight, but then have to be at work at 8:30 a.m. It can get quite demanding at times, but we know we must do it since we want to be successful.
Thanks – so what else can you share about your work and what sets you apart from others? What are you most proud of?3mpowered is definitely not a typical singing group. We have our focus on empowerment and when forming the group, Tatiana wanted to highlight the importance of getting an education while also pursuing one’s dream of being an entertainer, so all of the members of 3mpowered, past and present, have obtained at least an undergraduate degree or were pursuing an undergraduate degree when they were in the group. All three of us have our undergraduate degrees. Tatiana and AArica have postgraduate degrees as well. Meagan is currently in grad school and soon she will be graduating with her postgraduate degree!
The typical age of members in the beginning stages of a girl group are teens to mid-20’s, but we are all aged 27-33. We also all work full-time while being members in this group, but we are committed to this group and getting our empowerment message out there while also having fun singing and performing at local events in the central Florida area.
We are most proud of inspiring young girls with our group’s message while we perform. We will look out from the stage while we are performing and see them dancing along with us and engaged in our performances.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For anyone just starting out who wants to form a girl group, make sure you find committed members. That is the most important thing because if you find a group of committed members, then the group will go far. Make sure to have a consistent practice schedule. Practicing multiple times a week is necessary to the success of a girl group, and it’s something that needs to be done if you want the group to flourish.
