Conversations with Terenz Sitchon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terenz Sitchon.

Hi Terenz, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I always loved art, I’ve been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. I went to St. Petersburg College and my counselor recommended me to take a printmaking class as an elective. I didn’t know what to expect and I’d never worked with the medium before, but I fell in love with printmaking and I didn’t want to stop. In 2018, I went to Tampa Bay Comic Con and met two insanely talented printmakers, Brian Reedy and Attack Peter, and they inspired me to keep working on my art and become the printmaker I am today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started printmaking, I had no idea what I was doing. I applied to a few small conventions and my very first one was Gamer Con at USF. I didn’t have a lot of art at the time but I was glad that people were taking an interest in what I was doing. Not every convention has been successful, but I stay positive and make the best out of every situation. I use every show and every art project as a learning experience and this has helped me grow and make some really good friends along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make relief prints from woodblocks and I’m known for making original art and fan art. I’m very proud that my original art is appreciated just as often as my fan art and that my craftsmanship is and that I have the opportunity to inspire other artists. I’m humbled that I get to do what I love every day and share it with others.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I don’t really have any predictions for the future of printmaking, but traditional printmaking is a dying art and I hope to inspire a new generation of artists to keep the style alive and thriving.
