Hi The hive, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Both Priscilla and myself (Idenise) have worked in the hair industry for over 10 years now. It is no surprise that the unexpected COVID-19 would affect so many people’s lives which included us, hairstylist, where we worked in close proximity with our guest. However, during this challenging time, it has pushed both of us to take a leap of faith and to leave the salon we worked for and open our own business during quarantine called The Hive Studio. Admittedly, although it has been challenging to get to where we’re today, we couldn’t be more proud. As of today The Hive Studio has been opened for a year now and were still continually growing. This has allowed us to learn new aspects of the industry. We want our vision to bring light and love to what we do. To self-care, all learners regardless of the gender identity, race, physical ability and sexual orientation so that our guest have the opportunity to feel empowered and a senses of belonging.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The challenges that we’ve discovered have been enlightening. We have to had to do it all. Receptionist, marketing, assistant, hairstylist, therapist, you name it. On top of all the business running aspects, we have also needed to find time for our families. I think what we have learned is – not only is our industry about making people feel good and look good, we have had to learn to take care of ourselves along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are hair artist who help people look and feel their best. We specialize in all creative hair, meaning we do custom work depending on our guests needs. We are known for creative color and cuts. We are most proud of how we continue to grow in our industry. We don’t limit ourselves as far as education. What sets us apart from others is the hunger and love we have for our work and education.
What does success mean to you?
We feel as if we haven’t reached success yet, we believe the journey we have taken is what’s showing us how much more successful we will become.
