Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommie Wofford.
Hi Tommie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Tommie Wofford. I am a playwright, composer, actor, and producer from the central Florida area. I began writing my first play, Malcolm X The Musical when I was fourteen years old. The musical was originally workshopped at Lake Wales Little Theatre and went on to premiere at the Award-Winning Theatre Winter Haven. A year later, the musical was staged again at Stetson University’s Second Stage Theatre in DeLand, FL. The musical will be performed as a stage reading at the Orlando Shakes Theatre on October 8th. When not developing new musical works for the stage, I am writing films, songs, and studying musical theatre.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One obstacle I often face in my artistic journey is being taken seriously with my art and receiving funding for projects. Artist need support to make art and especially young artist. This is an obstacle I face; however, I have never let it stop me.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to think of myself as a multi-talented artist who can do it all. However, my artistry is primarily playwriting, songwriting, and acting.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I can remember writing my first song when I was young. It instilled a love for songwriting in me, and I’ve been in love with the art form from that point on.
