Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Harris.
Hi Troy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in Deland, FL. I learned how to play the sax at the age of 14. I was a late bloomer where other kids learned how to play an instrument at a younger age. What inspired me to start my career was a song by the name of Mamba #5 by Lou Bega. Coming from a family that was based strictly on sports, I tried both playing basketball and doing music. But as time went on, I realized I couldn’t do both, so I decided to stray away and do music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was definitely not a smooth road. Going through high school life and preparing myself for the future, I was set on what I wanted to do and where I wanted to take my career. But things didn’t go exactly how I planned. That was making it to the symphonic band. After not making it in the symphonic band, I got discouraged and quit the band.
After 3 years passed of not playing, I hit a trying time in my life where I tried singing a gospel song to wash away my pain but only realize that only made my pain worse. But I remember I did have an instrument that maybe if I played the song by ear that maybe I can play the lyrics to the song on the saxophone. And that’s where the self-taught came into play. Learning music by ear.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a saxophonist that performs at weddings, private events, restaurants, and festivals. I’m known for combining Jazz with R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, Reggae, Afrobeat, Latin, and Country music. I did cover songs and started posting them on social media which a couple went viral. After a while, I found myself doing shows and playing at numerous weddings, festivals, private events, and bar mitzvahs. I’ve played for celebrities such as Shaq, opened up for H-town, Jon-B, and Lyfe Jennings, and teamed up with Kenny Lattimore to perform at NBA player Tracy McGrady’s sister’s wedding.
I’ve expanded my artistic business, so not only do I play at weddings, private events, restaurants, and festivals. I put together a team of vendors for your entertainment purposes that consist of:
-DJs
-violin players
-pianist
-singers
-3 piece or 4-piece band
-Fog machine
-cold spark machine
-360 booths
-up lights
I’m here to make it more convenient and less stressful for you to find a vendor to hire. Most people that have events, a lot of times don’t know where to start and some just don’t have a clue on where to look to find a vendor for their entertainment purposes. If they do, they are most likely all the place with being in contact with multiple vendors which sometimes can be a hassle. So, with my entertainment skills, I put together a group of professional vendors. Where you can hire my company for your entertainment purposes. I’ll be the one along with my assistant, putting together your events entertainment and will handle your booking needs instead of you being all over the place in search of the perfect vendor for your event.
What I’m most proud of is finally after 13 years of employment, I stop working and made my music full time. I took a leap of faith and turned my passion into a business. Now I’m able to focus more on making others happy while playing at their special event and putting on a good show.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see my business expanding to other states. Potential to become one of the biggest entertainment companies. Working more with major artists and still making couples happy throughout the world by providing them with the best entertainment and vendors for their events.
