Today we’d like to introduce you to Yohanna Lozada.
Hi Yohanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in my home country, Venezuela, where I’ve always had a deep love for crafting and hands-on artistry. In 2012, while I was pregnant, my mother suffered a stroke, and I took on the responsibility of caring for her. Unable to leave home for a traditional job while looking after both my mother and my children, I started making woven bracelets and selling them to friends to generate income.
What began as a necessity soon turned into a true passion. I took courses in jewelry making and goldsmithing, expanding my designs. Slowly, my clientele grew through word of mouth. I began participating in local bazaars, was interviewed on local radio and TV, and boutiques started reaching out to feature my collection in their display cases. Combining colors, textures, and elements became my ultimate passion—it was no longer just about extra income, but about highlighting women’s natural beauty through unique design.
In 2018, I made the decision to migrate to the United States. Just a month after arriving, without knowing anyone in this new country, I had my jewelry tools shipped from Venezuela—in fact, I still craft my pieces using the exact same pliers I started with! Guided by determination and the unwavering support of my husband and children, I began entering local bazaars around the city to build brand awareness from scratch. Step by step, through dedication and family unity, Yoha Lozada Designs began connecting with a whole new community of loyal clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but every challenge has made the journey even more rewarding.
When I arrived in the United States in 2018, one of my biggest struggles was starting completely from scratch in a country where I didn’t know anyone and didn’t speak the language. Leaving behind the reputation, client network, and recognition I had built in Venezuela meant I had to reinvent myself and earn people’s trust all over again.
I will never forget my very first local bazaar here: a sudden storm hit, and strong gusts of wind blew my canopy tent away, damaging a lot of my materials. I cried so much that day feeling completely overwhelmed, but deep down, that moment became the spark that fueled my determination never to give up.
Navigating a new market, overcoming the language barrier, and balancing business with family life required immense resilience. However, every single obstacle only reinforced my belief in my craft and proved that with passion, hard work, and the support of my family, it is always possible to rebuild and thrive.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is to believe deeply in your vision, stay patient, and never be afraid to start small. Success isn’t built overnight; it comes from showing up consistently, even on the days when things don’t go as planned.
One thing I wish I knew when I was starting out is that unexpected setbacks—like losing materials or having to rebuild from scratch in a new country—are not signs to quit. Instead, they are valuable lessons that build your resilience and shape your strength as an entrepreneur.
Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment, tools, or circumstances to pursue your dream. Start with what you have in your hands right now, put genuine love into your work, and surround yourself with family and people who support your vision. If you work with passion and consistency, the right opportunities and clients will always find you.
