Today we’d like to introduce you to Zainub Mawji-Salazar.
Zainub, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Royale Sugars began as a pass time while I was waiting for my babies to grow a little more, so that I could make my way back into law school. It became a culmination of all of my previous hobbies, from baking to canvas painting, to sketching. It flourished into a passion that I love, that allows me to be a part of so many special events in my customers’ lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced, and continue to face, is the severe shortages and inflation being caused by the pandemic. Some ingredients are impossible to find at times, packaging as well. And the pricing of most materials and ingredients are doubling as the months go by. Unfortunately, as a small business, that makes it extremely difficult to keep stability in my pricing for my customers.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create custom sugar cookies and desserts, tailored specifically to each individual event or need. I love that this allows me to aid in extremely sentimental and important milestones in people’s lives, such as pregnancy announcements, milestone birthdays, memorials, and so much more. The trust my clients have in me to design the perfect set of cookies for them, and their reactions when they see them, means the world. But the best part, is that my cookies are not only pretty, they taste even better than they look! And I love when customers discover that.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the diversity that is available within Orlando, but on the flip side, I also like the least that it can also be very close minded to the diversity already all around us.
