Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Thomas
Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Alex Thomas (DJ A.T.): DJ, Entrepreneur, and Creative Visionary
My name is Alex Thomas, known as DJ A.T., I’m a powerhouse DJ, entrepreneur, and innovator blending music and fashion into a lifestyle brand. I was born in New York City, raised in New Jersey then moved to Orlando, in 2012, where I continued my DJ journey, establishing myself as a major force in the nightlife and entertainment industry.
Since going full-time in 2018, I’ve performed at major clubs in Downtown Orlando, International Drive, and cities across Florida, including Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville and other cities. My reach extends beyond Florida to cities and states like Atlanta, New York City, North and South Carolina, other major cities and internationally. In addition to clubs and large-scale events, I also DJ weddings at Walt Disney and large wedding venues bringing my signature energy to every celebration.
My passion for inspiring others led to the creation of my clothing brand, Energy A.T. in 2021, a streetwear and activewear brand designed to reflect the energy I bring to every performance. The brand was born from my desire to uplift and motivate people beyond the club, translating my vibrant presence into fashion. The name “ENERGY” features a backward second “E”, symbolizing creativity and individuality, while “A.T.” represents my identity. The brand’s motto, “Power Your Purpose”, embodies its mission to inspire confidence, movement and ambition.
Beyond music and fashion, I’m an investor and tax preparer with the company Taxology, using my business expertise to build financial opportunities for myself and others. My drive, creativity, and entrepreneurial mindset makes me a true visionary across multiple industries.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve faced significant challenges transitioning from corporate work to full-time self-employment as a DJ. In the beginning, I had to market myself, build a network, and establish connections with individuals and companies to secure bookings while ensuring I could maintain my financial stability. The shift required persistence, strategic branding, and continuous self-promotion to elevate myself in the industry.
With Energy A.T., I encountered similar struggles, from marketing the brand and driving sales to finding reliable manufacturers to produce high-quality merchandise. Building a strong team to help with marketing and brainstorming future releases was another hurdle, as was securing the financial resources to expand the brand. Despite these obstacles, my resilience and entrepreneurial mindset have allowed me to push forward, growing both my DJ career and clothing business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My love for music started early, inspired by the diverse sounds my parents played at home, from my haitian culture music “kompa” to a mix of genres that fueled my passion for collecting and spinning music. I began DJing as a hobby at the age of 16 and turned professional by 20 in 2010. I’m known for my open format style seamlessly blending different genres, decades, and cultures to create high-energy, unforgettable sets. My skill on the mic as an MC allows me to engage crowds and bring any event to life. In 2018, I decided to pursue my career as a DJ.
I’ve been the DJ of choice for top celebrities and athletes, including Allen Iverson, Tyreek Hill, Fridayy, Vedo, Jadakiss, Michael Blackson and many more. I was honored to be the official DJ for the Los Angeles Lakers 2020 championship in the NBA bubble at Walt Disney Resort. Additionally, I’m the DJ for the UCF Knights Football tailgate events sponsored by 3MG Roofing.
I’m proud of making the transition to full-time employment overcoming the challenges of building my career as a DJ and entrepreneur. The persistence it took to go from corporate work to becoming an entrepreneur. Although, I’m still growing and they are many more goals I’m aiming to achieve I’m proud of how far I came.
Building Energy A.T from ground up, despite the hurdles of marketing, manufacturing and financial constraints. Creating a clothing brand with my vision and energy most importantly the amount of support and believers I receive from people is so humbling and very blessed.
My corporate job was a financial counselor in the healthcare industry. I understand the importance of finance and I wanted to implement my knowledge and expertise to help others while growing my financial knowledge and business acumen.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, I want to thank God for giving me the talent and leading my path. I’m also incredibly grateful for my family and friends, who believed in my DJ skills from the start of my journey and have always supported my vision for Energy A.T. Gary Richardson, one of my old coworker. He was the one who pushed me to take that leap of faith, telling me to bet on myself and leave corporate work, follow my passion to go full-time as a DJ.
Gee, a close friend, gave me my first residency at a nightclub, where I began building my confidence performing in front of diverse crowds.
DJ Freefall encouraged me to keep practicing my craft and reminded me that I had the potential to be one of the best DJs to come out of Orlando.
Brandon Velez formally known as “Papi Champagne” discovered me playing at a lounge and introduced me to the downtown Orlando scene; helping me start our first day party together, which allowed me to connect with major promoters, venue owners, and influencers.
Stan Butler is the one who came up with the idea for Energy A.T. and invested in it, helping me take my passion beyond DJing and into the fashion world.
Credit to whole Energy team especially, Yiliany Santana and Natalea Lawton, my brand ambassadors and content creators day in and day out always coming up with ideas, working hard for the brand to scale.
Jaison Julian my business partner with Taxology encouraged me to continue using my financial knowledge.
And of course, I’m deeply grateful to all my fans, supporters, friends, family, and business partners—each of you has played a crucial part in my growth and success, and I truly appreciate you.
