Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Luna.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
IDEAS For Us is a non-profit organization and NGO of the United Nations. We started as a club at UCF in 2008 and grew into the non-profit status in 2011. The inception of the organization and its growth are designated to solving our many social and environmental challenges as a greater society. We do this by empowering people globally to take action locally in their communities. We use our “Hive” to develop our “IDEAS”. We then fund and scale the solutions, managing projects at the local level with our various branch leaders in different communities around the world.
Our Edible Landscapes in Central Florida looks to change the ways that our society underutilizes our landscapes. We love creating spaces for community gardens, fruit tree orchards in public and private spaces, herbal gardens, and all kinds of useful plants that can be used in a plethora of ways to benefit the community. The point of these spaces is so that we can change the grass-minded ways of our society to be oriented purposefully. We love healing the environment through using permaculture practices in our work and planting native plants and pollinators.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many struggles along the way. Many people do not believe the climate crisis to be a pressing issue. Others believe it to be too far gone. We are of the mindset that everyone needs to come together in order to solve these challenges and create a healthy planet and society.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love collaborating with nature to create beautiful and abundant spaces. I am a creative horticulturalist; I enjoy implementing spiritual practices through the energy of nature and allowing God to manifest through nature. I am most proud of our work in creating these spaces for children in schools to get out of the classroom and interact with nature in the outdoor spaces while learning valuable techniques that will follow them throughout their lives.
I am a kind, loving, and fun guy who seeks to free the world of our destructive human practices. I believe strongly that we need to work with the rest of the world and our ecosystem as a whole to truly get to the next level of sustainability as a people and as life itself.
What makes you happy?
Nature makes me happy. Seeing life, hearing the birds sing, smelling the flowers, and feeling the healing energy of mother nature.
