Daily Inspiration: Meet Alice Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Robinson

Hi Alice, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out grooming is west palm beach about 4 years ago. I worked at a small shop and quickly worked my way up the ladder. The old owner wanted to retire so I bought the grooming shop from her called dirty dog grooming. After about two years I decided I wanted to go to school for veterinary medicine. I closed the shop and moved to Orlando with my partner Mak.

We moved up over a year ago, I attend UCF for their Biology program specifically the pre-veterinarian track. Mak attends IRSC for their cyber security program. I have around a year left and plan to attend veterinary school after that and she has one semester left and has hopes of joining a cyber security company.

I needed to find a job and the job search led me to Love on a Leash. I grew close to the owner Paul Selice. He was running the business and working his own job. We both decided it was a great opportunity for my partner and I to buy the business.

Mak and I have been running Love on a Leash since the beginning of December and it has been growing significantly.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting the company definitely had its difficulties. We were lucky to have Paul help us with the transfer. It was a quick process but obtaining all of the right licenses and insurance was the hardest part. The van itself was a learning process. Learning the van maintenance and generator has its own difficulties. Mak and I find our selves learning new techniques to fix electrical, plumbing, and mechanical problems all the time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a dog groomer, I specialize in all breeds of dogs. We’re known for smaller dogs and work in all Lake Nona and surrounding areas. We’re most proud of running the business together as a young queer couple. What sets us apart from other companies is our unique set of skills. Mak runs all business aspects while I groom. We have an amazing certified groomer, Kim. She has been working with love on a leash for around 3 years. She has made a huge impact on our decision to buy the business. Clients love her and specifically request her because of her skills and personality. Our communication level with customers also sets us apart from other companies. We are always honest with our clients and have quick response times. However, our main difference is our attention to safety. We prioritize dog safety more than anything else. We are always in constant communication with the clients on how their dogs did during the groom and if anything needs to change or how we can make the dog more comfortable.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something most people don’t know about us is Mak does competitive jujitsu and enjoys building computers. I enjoy pottery and gardening. We have two dogs and two cats and hope to buy a house with a large yard and rescue and rehabilitate dogs and other animals in need.
