Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Wheatley. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Our Rescue DreamCatcher Horse Rescue – Founded in 2006 by the Wheatley family, and is family owned and run.
Began with two horses – Sonny & Little Girl – and is now home to around 60 horses.
Became a 501(c)3 in 2008 when the recession hit and they saw a need for horse rescue.
Rescued, rehabilitated, & re-homed over a 1000 horses over the years.
Specializes in major medical cases – like Highway the horse.
Many horses call DreamCatcher their forever home as sanctuary horses.
We are staffed by volunteers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Financially it’s always a struggle. I have worked in real estate for 22 years since moving from uk and a large amount of my commissions is donated back to the rescue to help with the feed and veterinary costs and maintenance of the facility. We also open to the public by appt six days a week and offer a wide range of activities at a very reasonable cost to help raise funds.
Also, we are constantly searching for volunteers as it’s very labor-intensive to take care of this amount of horses and the facility.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
