Today we’d like to introduce you to Anduy Goliat.
Hi Anduy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Merida, Venezuela, on April 21st, 1998. As a child, I began to develop a great interest in the visual arts, participating in several art courses. At the age of 15, motivated by the artworks of different artists who were followed by me on social networks, I proposed starting with my first realistic drawing practices. A year later, I had the opportunity to take courses in artistic drawing and architectural drawing with the former professor of the University of Los Andes, Architect Ronald Skinner, who taught me everything related to the principles of design, use of various techniques and other topics.
At age 17, I began working as an art drawing teacher at the Hacienda El Pilar cultural center, where I taught to children, youth and adults how to draw and paint for two years. In December 2017, I decided to start my own drawing studio and personal project called “Goliat Art Studio”. With the beginning of the crisis in Venezuela, I traveled to Arequipa, Peru in January 2018. There, I announced my work in several places, being able to be interviewed on April 26, 2018 by Marisol Mercado, in the TV show called DE TODO UN POCO by Panamericana TV Peru channel 2.
That opportunity allowed me to reach more interested people in my work, among them some young people and adults who later became in my students. In May 2018, I began teaching again in a small studio, where I taught drawing and painting workshops. On October 25 and 26, 2018, I participated in one of the biggest entertainment events in Arequipa, GAME PRO-TOUR 2018 with two of my students, giving manga, anime and realistic drawing workshops to the public. On November 9th, I was interviewed in the TV Show called LA CARCOCHA by América TV channel 10.
I traveled to Orlando, Fl, in March 2019, where I live right now. In addition, I am part of the Tertulia Cuatro Gatos, a cultural group that is present in the libraries of the Orange and Osceola County in Florida. With these, I have been able to show my artworks in places like the Mexico Consulate in Orlando and the University of Central Florida. In May 6, 2020, I was interviewed by Reinaldo Oliveros of the Venezuelan Newspaper El Diario, a national newspaper that has spread his work and story in Venezuela.
On May 14th, I taught the Online conference “drawing ideas” with the Mexican Institute of Finance Executives (IMEF) for students of the Iberoamerican University Torreón. Right now, I have been developing an online academy that has students in United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Peru. In September 2020, I was interviewed in Univision TV 26 for the segment Todo Venezuela as one of the Latin artists in Central Florida.
In September 2021, I was selected for participating in the Hispanic heritage art exhibit by the Orange County City Hall, being interviewed by Orange TV and Univision 26 on September 20th. I have been participating with CABETCAL House of culture and arts in several exhibits, as well in Casselberry Art House, CityArts, Osceola Arts and other places.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I had several moments of difficulty, it has been a journey full of much adventure but also a lot of learning and joy. Starting in a country different from yours, where nobody knows you and you don’t know how to begin, has been the biggest challenge I ever had in my career, twice. Also being able to make a space between local artists is a process that takes time and is complex since your art is not seen in a good way for everyone.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional artist and drawing teacher. I like to create works that have a lot of life, that have the perception that they would come out of the paper. I use all kinds of medias from graphite, charcoal to colored pencils and painting. I am specialized in representing human portrait, although I am also creating landscape works and illustrations in general. They know me a lot for drawing various characters from Venezuela and also Marvel heroes. As a teacher, I am proud to be able to teach classes to people from different countries in two languages: English and Spanish. I try to be a different teacher than many, I am quite interested in teaching what I know, that the students show motivation and interest in the different topics so that they can develop all their artistic skills and achieve being better than me. Of course, it will always be a mutual learning process for both the student and the teacher. I feel really proud of all my students.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have been a person who likes to read, learning about many things. I have followed the philosophy since I was a child that wherever one passes, one must leave a good mark. Always being open as a person to learn about new experiences to know how to overcome the challenges that arise along the way.
