Daily Inspiration: Meet Angel Tollinchi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Tollinchi.

Hi Angel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My early and humble beginnings all started at my grandfather’s (father’s side) church in Ponce Puerto Rico, My Father, being a Bass player, Exposed me to music at the early age of 7 years old. It all started with pair of bongos. Slowly but surely, I worked my way up to the drums by the age of 10 years old. My father was my biggest supporter growing up. By the age of 13, I won my first drum off at Sam Ash music stores in the under 18 categories. The feeling and the rush of competition had now entered my blood. So, it drove me and my enthusiasm for drums even higher. My endeavors with drums continued through high school, participating in Osceola County school for the arts and finishing off in Liberty High School marching band. Through high school, I continued to compete not only in all countries and all states but also in Guitar Centers Drum with lots of practice. By the end of high school, I had started to play with many local Rock bands, Houses of Worship, Latin pop groups Disney’s Caliente Band, etc. . I kept the same drive with practice and searching for creative ways to find my own sound. And I keep the same drive today. Even after facing difficult financial times growing up at home and unstable conditions. I never stopped practicing and kept my drive to strive higher with the drums. My drive intensified this year after being rear-ended by a school bus, I almost died but I believed in God and I was able to get back up after intensive therapy. I wasn’t promised to walk again. But I pushed myself and I launched my Social Media covers challenging myself to strive even higher.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t always smooth growing up with financial instability, which lead to our family of 5 being homeless multiple times growing up. Mom, dad, and 2 younger brothers all of us sleeping in a local hotel room with only 2 beds. Going from house to house. To the point, I had to go to work and not finish my last year of school, and I had to start a full-time. Worried about where our next meal would show up, I decided to keep working and finish school later on in life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Drummer and Digital Creator, I’m proud of being a part of many groups, Both in Houses of worship and secular venues. I’m Known for my aggressive speed and expression on my instrument. I think what sets me aside is my visible passion for my craft.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I faced many challenges pushing me to be a wild child, but I put all that frustration into pushing my music on the drums. All I had was my drum sticks and a few phone books I took from other neighbors’ houses. I wrapped them up in tape and closed my eyes, and would imagine a Drum set in front of me. I kept practicing as if I had physical drums because all I was always interested in was watching my favorite drummers, drums Videos, and DVDs from either Guitar Center or Sam ash.
