Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Fulton.
Hi Anne, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a hairstylist. My poor dolls were my Guinea pigs. When I was in high school, I attended a vocational school to study cosmetology. When I graduated high school, I graduated with my cosmetology license. I began working as a hairstylist right away in a salon while all my classmates were getting ready to go away to college. It’s now been 26 yrs. since graduated. I have now been licensed to do hair in 3 states. I have worked in every aspect of the salon. From working as a shampoo assistant to working behind the chair, managing a salon, and now starting my first salon suite. I have competed in hair wars. Winning first place several years as a team with my salon and also second place in individual for cutting. /Styling. I have a serious passion for hair that just keeps growing. My favorite thing to do is formal hairstyling. Especially bridal hairstyles. I love bringing joy to people by helping them to feel beautiful. Every person I have come across in my career through the years both clients and coworkers, and educators have helped me become the stylist I am today. I am forever grateful for each one of them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road? Haha, that’s funny. Is there ever truly a smooth road? We wouldn’t be who we are today if all our roads were smooth. Hair styling is not for the faint at heart. It’s a tough job. I have definitely had struggles through the years. The beginning of my career, I was this very quiet meek very young girl. My struggle then was communicating with clients in my chair. I had to force myself to pull myself out of my shell. Honestly, it’s one of the hardest things I’ve had to achieve. Building a clientele and keeping them is another struggle I had. It’s easy to do a client’s hair one time and having them come back to you once, but the real trick is keeping them after that. It’s not just doing good hair that keeps clients returning but how well you interact with them.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As I said before, I am a licensed cosmetologist. I specialize in highlighting, hair cutting, and updos. As far as hair cutting, I would say I am most known for cutting both long hair and a bob. Both are my favorite styles to do. I am most proud of the formal hairstyling I do. It’s what I love the most. It’s a time I can just create a beautiful masterpiece. I believe doing those are what sets me apart from others. I have found working with others that there aren’t many stylists who not only aren’t trained to do an updo but don’t have a passion for it.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Ok, well, let’s start with what I like least. That would be what I think most would agree with me on, and that is all the traffic with so many tourists. What I like the best would be all the things there are to do here. I love the amusement parks. I love that there are so many different types of restaurants.
