Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Lucas
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hey there! I’m Ashley, I’m a professional makeup artist and hair stylist here in Orlando Florida. My makeup journey started at 15 when I began experimenting with looks purely for fun and fascination. By 17, I was doing my first wedding makeup, and I was hooked to the glam without realizing. At 18, I joined the MAC Cosmetics family, which only fueled my passion for the beauty world even further. From then on out, I began freelancing to gain more experience.
I later went to beauty school in Hackensack NJ to sharpen my skills and dive deeper into the industry, of course learning more about hair. I spent some time freelancing until I returned back to our beautiful sunshine state a couple of years later. Now, I’m on an exciting entrepreneurial path, helping others feel beautiful and confident in their image for all of their special life events, whether it be a birthday, graduation, engagement, wedding, maternity, etc. I also very much enjoy working with Artists, influencers, local celebs and Growing Businesses with their branding shoots and video shoots. All of this is thanks to Instagram and client/vendor recommendations.
This industry has connected me with so many talented individuals which has opened my interests even further. I’ve had wonderful opportunities to work on production sets, I’ve had my work published in various magazines over a 6 year span including an international publishing last year. I’ve been blessed to travel for work. NYC, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami and more. I love every moment of this journey so far! I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. It has been a roller coaster actually but if you have the drive and determination to succeed, you can push yourself to make it. Owning your own business is not for everyone and that’s okay. But those that have gone the entrepreneurial route have taken the leap of faith and know that you pour all that you can to thrive.
I struggled with building my brand in the beginning mainly because I had moved back to Orlando and had to start my business from scratch, which quickly changed the more I gained clientele and experience. I was 23-24 at the time, I had to learn about marketing to my target audience, algorithms, and social marketing skills. You name it. It is and will always be a learning curve when it comes to entrepreneurial development, especially as a we advance in this age of technology. Keeping up with trends as they are ever changing.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist. I specialize in Makeup that Photographs beautifully and that is long wearing for Professional Photography, Professional Video, studio sessions, etc . I also style hair and occasionally marry it with my makeup services.
Being that I specialize in this, I also have a lot of Bridal clientele that come recommended or see my work online and trust me. Bridal is one of my favs.
I’m proud of the quality of work I can deliver and my ability to educate clients and some artists on different makeup styles.
My understanding of color theory and product knowledge sets me apart from others, along with my bubbly personality. We can get glam and have a great time. I really love connecting with my clients!
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a little more on the shy side but once I was comfortable, my personality did shine. Once again that bubbly goofy side of me makes an appearance.
I did take interests in so many crafts growing up. I loved making bracelets (90’s babies, iykyk), I loved sketching and painting, ceramics, different forms of art definitely called to me, including learning some music (singing or playing instruments)
