Daily Inspiration: Meet Bella Vee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bella Vee.

Hi Bella, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with music at around five years old. I was always singing and couldn’t go to sleep unless the radio was on. I knew from a young age I wanted to be a singer/performer, but as I got older, I decided that I would look for a more “practical” profession. My first year of college I wrote my first rap following the recommendation of a friend of mine who made music as well. From that moment I knew I wanted to make music as a rapper and I haven’t looked back. I began writing and recording music, performing, and making music videos. Creating a fanbase that genuinely loves my music has been so rewarding and I am enjoying the journey and plan to take it as far as I can.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Sometimes the obstacles are internal and the more you advance the more they seem to rear its ugly head. For me, I was extremely self-critical. I was a perfectionist to the point of inaction, struggling with anxiety and depression all while trying to operate in an industry that requires you put your best face on. This truly affected my productivity and consistency which was very necessary to build an organic fanbase and keep them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Recording Artist. I specialize in songwriting particularly rap lyrics. I am known for my aggressive style and lyrical prowess. This is what I am most proud of. When I began rapping, I became infatuated with the artists who would tell stories, use their words to paint pictures, and had lyrics that made you think. I spent my time studying these artists and since then I can say I became able to produce what I so admired in my own right. What sets me apart is that I am telling my particular story through my lyrics which is unique unto me. I use colorful words and concepts, which I attribute to my background in poetry, with a gritty delivery which I attribute to growing up in the inner city in New York. The juxtaposition is what makes my music different.

Currently I’m gearing up to release my new single “Who Better” and the visuals.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Nuke Major, fellow artist, friend, and mentor of mine was the person who first put the thought in my mind to experiment and pursue rap. In the early stages, he would listen to my verses and give me his constructive criticism. As I became more solid in my creative foundation, he began giving me advice on the music business and how to properly market myself. He has been there since the inception of my rap career and continues to help me as I grow. My parents have been my biggest supporters. There was a time when I would record music leave them in my email and I wouldn’t release them. My mother gave me the courage to do so, telling me that the world needed to hear it and to stop playing small. She saw that I began to question my potential and she gave me constant reassurance that I had what it takes to be a star. My father was a rap artist in his younger days, so he gave me advice on how to diversify my style, and he kept me grounded when I felt like the pressure became overwhelming.
