Daily Inspiration: Meet Brittany Bae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Bae.

Hi Brittany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in music started at a very young age. Being the child of singer/songwriter & enrolled in dance school by the age of 4, I was always exposed to all sorts of music throughout my life. By the time I was in grade school, I fell in love with poetry. I found it fascinating the many ways you can play with words. As a teenager my poetry became songs and thanks to the internet & CD album books, I had read enough lyrics to know how to structure a song myself. My dad & his friends took notice of my writing capabilities as a child and would feed me beats to write and sing to. I wrote my very first song at the age of 16 and through my early adulthood, my passion for music & entertainment has not subsided. I’ve choreographed pieces for dance teams/music videos, worked with Grammy Nominated producers, been featured on 104.5 The Beat FM radio station as well as winning their Who’s Got Next Contest and was hand picked by Kelly Rowland to audition live for her girl group Chasing Destiny. I challenge myself to experiment and learn new things musically all the time. Recently, I’ve been producing some of my own tracks as well as shooting and editing my own videos. I love to be involved in every creative aspect as I possibly can. Today, I am preparing for upcoming shows including Orlando’s very own Culture Festival this June and working on a few music projects for my listeners to truly indulge.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, life is an obstacle course! By the time I was 22, I found myself a single parent of two amazing souls. It challenged me in so many ways but has been such a blessing. I struggled for a long time figuring out who I am as a person, let alone a mother and at the time an aspiring artist. I say that in past tense because a few years ago I felt like an artist was something I was trying to be compared to today knowing that’s actually what I am; an artist. There’s been plenty of times when I felt inadequate in my craft despite my burning desire. So as a woman, and mother I am always encouraging people, especially woman, to muster the confidence & strength to remain positive and be the best version of themselves at all times, even through the obstacles. There is a lot of pressure being a parent, a woman and a woman in a male dominated industry on top of that. I’ve learned obstacles come a dime a dozen and I’ve had many but I’ve also learned to shift my perspective whenever they arise. Anything that we go through is usually for a bigger reason we may not be able to realize until years later.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an independent artist, singer, writer and dancer. I have as much fun behind the camera as I do in front of it! I love art of all facets, so I do a little drawing and painting on my “free time”.

One of the things that I’m most proud of is being selected by Kelly Rowland to audition for her. I never had any technical singing training so for someone of her caliber to acknowledge my voice gave me a feeling of validation. I am also proud of my growth as an artist. I used to be extremely shy but my journey in music has allowed me to open up use my voice in way I thought I’d never really have the courage to

In my opinion, what sets me apart is my journey and my perspective. It’s something that is unique to me which no one on earth can replicate. I enjoy being me in all of my eclectic ways wholeheartedly.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite app that helps me do best at life would definitely be my google calendar. That along with my planner has been helpful in keeping me organized. I am also a pretty big reader and have read many books that has helped me mentally, spiritually and creatively. One of my favorites to read and share with others is Ask & it is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks, it’s a great read for spiritual and mental growth. When I’m not reading, I’m on youtube listening to motivational videos that help keep me pumped to continue to do my best.
