Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Vega.
Hi Brittany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Orlando Florida, theme parks and live entertainment have always been a part of my life. My story has come full-circle from frequenting the parks as a place to hang out after school, to now making a full-time career in creating the next-generation of themed entertainment.
While in high school, I was introduced to the magic of theatre through drama class, which allowed me to learn basic skills in both technical theatre and performance. From there, I was able to gain a full-ride Scholarship to the Florida State University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre/ Minor in Hospitality Management. This achievement was the culmination of years of academic hard work and utmost support from my family, becoming the first in my family to graduate with a college degree.
My professional path led me through a myriad of jobs here in Orlando including Attractions Operations at some of the major local theme parks, and Theatrical Technician across various professional local theatres. These avenues allowed me to connect with local professionals, ultimately including the team at Universal Creative.
At Universal Creative, we design, develop, and deliver the most compelling entertainment experiences imaginable to drive growth for Universal Destinations & Experiences worldwide. Our innovative attractions, immersive theme parks, and world-class resorts fuse art and technology to create new standards in the themed entertainment industry. Throughout a cumulative 9-year career here, I have had the pleasure of traveling the globe to bring these experiences to life. It is such a joy to spend my career creating a Universe of fun, always ensuring the next thing we do is better than the last thing we did.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Throughout my career, I have learned the value of hard work and risk-taking. Every major project or milestone I have had the pleasure of being a part of, came due to taking a risk. I constantly remind myself and my team the importance of stepping into the unknown, to stretch your capabilities and challenge yourself to grow.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At its core, storytelling is a huge aspect of themed entertainment. Whether you are watching a live performance, listening to a piece of background music, shopping in a retail store, or dining in a food & beverage location, there is a story being told all around you. One of the cool things about my job is being able to create and tell those stories through unique perspectives. With their diverse skills and forward-thinking ideas, our team pushes us beyond the boundaries of what’s possible to achieve the extraordinary. Together, we’re creating a Universe of fun.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I pride myself on generally being a happy person- I like to find joy in all aspects of my life, while also allowing space to honor those moments where things aren’t so easy.
When you’re in the business of creating fun, it’s hard not to enjoy yourself along the way. Having a solid rapport with my team creates a comradery, allowing us to support each other throughout any challenges we may face. Outside of work, I find happiness in spending time with my loved ones and serving at my church. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance provides for better overall physical, mental, and emotional health, allowing me to give my best every day.
