Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Harmon
Hi Candace, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started sharing our passion for Disney and meeting the characters at the parks when the kids were little. We would match the characters and get the cutest reactions. Eventually, the kids got older and outgrew that stage and we wanted to explore more of Florida besides just Disney.
We got passes to other theme parks, Universal being our current favorite to visit, and also looked for hidden gems in the Central Florida areas. We’ve had the most fun collaborating with small businesses such as Arcade Monsters, Santa’s Farm, Elev8, Dezerland, Pirates Dinner Adventure, Zoos, local restaurants, etc. We have also collaborated with bigger businesses like Legoland, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Kennedy Space Center and more. There’s so much to Florida besides Disney, which is what we love to share.
We grew on Youtube hitting over 100k subscribers last year and we have 40k on Instagram so far. I’m honestly just thankful for the opportunities we’ve had because we wouldn’t normally be able to explore so much on our own.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Social Media always has it’s struggles. Views go up and down and you have a pressure to do well all the time. I also don’t make a lot of money, like people assume all influencers do, so I’m looking for ways to help provide financial support for my family. Our page may make us look rich, but we struggle and have to budget just like any other family. For example, we may pack our own lunch if we get invited somewhere. No shame in that. This is also why I like to share affordable activities in the area, because I personally love finding good value for my money.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I personally love filming content, getting different angles on my camera or phone and creating a fun social media post. I also enjoy painting and drawing which my kids do too. I’m most proud of my kids artistic abilities and how creative they are. I’m always trying to encourage them to do something artistic.
I believe we are known for character meets at theme parks. We give out gifts to them every year during Christmas and people always look forward to seeing that. It’s a fun yearly tradition we started at Universal.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I don’t try to focus my content just on myself. A lot of influencers appear to rub in that they got hosted somewhere and I never want to seem entitled. Instead, I enjoy sharing about a place more than sharing myself doing cute poses. I’m also still very introverted after making content for over 7 years. I don’t think that will change. I hope my content provides value and is informative, as that is always my goal.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Being kind and talking to others is the best way to network at an event. Or even just engaging with your online community. Actually respond to comments, questions, DMs, etc. You never know who is watching or listening.
