Daily Inspiration: Meet Casey Forney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Forney.

Hi Casey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all began in my high school and college years, where I worked for one of my hometown’s local marinas. From mechanical repairs to boat restoration, I did it all. After college I followed my desire to help others and became a firefighter. I still frequently utilized my nautical skill set as a hobby however. After much persistence by family and friends, I was convinced to make a business out of it. With help from those who have embarked on similar journeys, born into the world was Kc’s Mobile Marine. I operate the business on a part-time basis, as I am still actively serving our local community as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our business was an overnight success, phone calls came flooding in as soon as we started advertising. This however came with some significant struggles, as it wasn’t long before I realized we simply could not keep up with the demand. After about a year I was faced with the crossroads of either expanding, or cutting back on the services we offer. My Son basically made the decision for me one night when he said: “Dad, I wish you didn’t work so much. I really miss you when you’re gone.” Mind you he’s only six, and is obviously wise beyond his years. Family will always come first for me, so right then and there I realized we needed to slow down and reconstruct our model of operations.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our business centers around the boating scene. We operate by appointment-only, providing outboard and personal watercraft preventative maintenance, electronic/equipment installs and marine detailing; all on a mobile basis. There’s no need for our customers to haul their boat and/or pwc to the marina as was routine in years past. We’re also proud to offer contactless and/or anonymous service. If our clients can’t be home, don’t want to be home or even just don’t feel like talking to anybody, that’s ok! We can handle all aspects of the service process via text, including photo updates of all work performed, and take care of formal quotes and payments via Square.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Just plain being a kid with no responsibilities. We didn’t realize how good we had it back then. I was the generation that played outside all day and knew to come home when the street lights came on. No electronics, no distractions. I wish life was still that simple.
