Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Louissaint.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started training intensely so I can a well rounded and skill firearms owner. I wanted to be an asset to my community. Throughout the first 8yrs of my training journey, I was never taught by a black instructor. For many years, I was always the only black person in class. After having so many people reach out to me for training and hearing a common perspective about the lack of black firearms instructors, it sparked something in me.
I looked at my own personal experiences within the second amendment community along with my passion of properly educating people and I discovered my purpose. I wanted to be an example of representation for those that look like me.
I decided to become an instructor and getting certified with many well known organizations. After getting certified, I realized as a professional, I had to get organized and structured. FTAC Security Solutions & Training was born in November 2018.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, its been very up and down. Entrepreneurship is not in easy in general. Its filled with highs and lows of joy, stress, frustration, self doubt, financial issues, problem solving, the need to be perfect, and much more. Its also was not easy entering a field that is predominately white.
For example when Covid happened the cost of ammo tripled. It created thi domino effect of lack of ammo availability and very long processing times. Orders were delayed 6-8months.
When ammo costs go thru the roof now your prices have to increase which means people don’t want to shoot. The only good thing that help was my range is outdoors and people felt more comfortable being outside and following the recommended safety measures. It was a very stressful and financially taxing time period.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
That’s a great question!
I do a few things within the firearms community.
I own FTAC Security and provide high level professional security services throughout Florida and abroad.
I am a Firearms Coach/Law Enforcement Instructor that teaches civilian and armed professionals how to effectively work and improve their shooting skills. I cater to all experience levels.
I am also a Deadly Force Consultant and I specialize in use of deadly force. Whether its teaching the in depth laws of deadly force/legalities, analyzing the use of deadly to determine justification or not, consulting on a legal case for a client involving the use of deadly force.
I unfortunately have had to use deadly force and have been involved in a few self defense shootings. I teach from that experience along with my drive for personal development for myself and for those in the second amendment community. I am bringing people together who love their families and the second amendment. We are creating a community of knowledgeable protectors, true assets who have critical thinking skills and strive to be above standard.
This is what sets me apart..
Outside of being known as a deadly force expert, I am a celebrity firearms trainer. I have trained various professional athletes to include three USA Gold Olympians. I am most proud of that!
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes that majority of people don’t think of others when we had all the panic buying. lol
Crisis expose those who aren’t prepared. For example there was was so many people who didn’t own a firearm/ didn’t believe in guns but decided they needed one for protection due to the violent incidents stemming from covid. People stuck at home, resources limited, fear, panic, and violent crimes..
