Daily Inspiration: Meet Darien Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darien Davis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for music came at a young age.       I started playing piano at the age of seven years old and I started writing songs not too long after that. I’ve always had the ability to play by ear and then I learned to sight-read. I have three younger brothers who are all musically talented as well, each having the ability to sing and play instruments and growing up, we would have jam sessions together.

As we got older, that later evolved into us forming a Hip-Hop/R&B group called Third Generation. We would record our own music and perform together at countless events in our local area. Everyone loved us and we got comparisons to the Jackson 5. Although we’re still very close, we got to a point in our lives where we all started to branch off and do our own thing. Life understandably happens and everyone’s schedules started conflicting with each other so I started focusing on my solo career and started writing songs for myself.

I went independent under my former stage name D-Reezy releasing a couple of singles and then I was offered a Distribution Deal from a Record Label called Bentley Records. At that point, Darien The Great was born and I started making a name for myself by performing at every Open Mic Event and Artist Showcase I could find. I eventually parted with Bentley Records and signed a Distribution Deal with UnitedMasters, which is who I’m currently with now.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an artist, it’s never really a smooth road.

You want the entire world to listen but sometimes the world makes you feel small. Sometimes you feel like you are invisible. I’ve had to overcome a lot of struggles financially, mentally, and emotionally in my personal life and I’m still fighting battles to this day. But I leave it all in my music and fight through adversity because ultimately this is what I want to do regardless of the circumstances.

I believe that I’m a better musician for it because your best songs come from real-life experiences.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Recording Artist in the genres of Hip-Hop, R&B, and Pop. I’m a songwriter, I sing, I rap, I play instruments and I can produce. I own an online clothing line store with apparel that I designed. I launched an entertainment agency company called New Classic Records LLC where I’ll be able to create a platform for artists and I’ll have the ability to host events and I’m currently working to release a new album called “Vibes Under City Lights.” Which I feel is going to be my best work yet and it is set to be released this year.

I recently featured on an international song called “Deserted” and it reached over 100,000 streams in 2021.

What I feel that sets me apart from the rest is my God-given talent to make music. Whether that be my ear to create catchy melodies and harmonies, my songwriting ability to create powerful lyrics, or my ability to play piano and piece everything together. I feel that I create timeless music that every generation can enjoy, young and old.

I feel like with me, you can get a little old with the new. I always make the connection to bridge the gap and it’s honestly one of my favorite things to do. I also feel like my mentality, my business acumen and my ambition sets me apart as well. I chose the name Darien The Great because I want to go down as one of the greatest to ever do it.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see myself still creating music and evolving as I age. I’ve noticed growth from my early 20s to now in my late 20s so I’m excited to see what’s next. Maybe after I get where I want to be, I’ll start writing songs for other artists. I also see myself creating a big enough platform for the local artists to stand on and be heard.

I want to give others the opportunities I fought hard to get growing up. We’re really changing the game in the music industry and going independent allows you to keep your creative freedom and optimize your revenue if done correctly it’s been a process doing it this way but I’m laying down the blueprint and following it.
