Daily Inspiration: Meet David Perry

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Perry.

Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started with Nautilus Coffee Co. in 2021. It is a highly themed coffee shop based on a fictional story about a turn-of-the-century couple (Jane and Henry Nautilus) who owned an Ironworks factory that built magnificent travel vessels. You can read more about the fictional story at nautiluscoffeeco.com/our-story.

In 2022, we expanded on that same fictional story and created The Argonaut Bar. Guests are now aboard one of the couple’s magnificent travel vessels (The Argonaut), which is a submarine during the prohibition era. You can read more about the story of the Argonaut at argonautbar.com/our-story.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have spent the last 30 years of my life involved in many different forms of construction as well as creative fabrication, art, and design.

I have done custom furniture and metal sculpture, residential and commercial construction projects, as well as many theme park-related projects. Nautilus Coffee Co. and Argonaut Bar are a culmination of all the skills and experience I have learned over that time.

What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was always building things and being creative. From houses made out of cardboard boxes to elaborate tree “forts” and other ridiculous but creative messes. I would often be in trouble for losing my father’s tools. My father owned a construction company among other things and I would steal materials from the job sites for my creative ideas.

My father was a brilliant fabricator. He could build anything from any material. He once built me a life-size wrestling ring when I was about ten years old and idolized Hulk Hogan. He was the most influential in my life and a big part of much of my success.
