Daily Inspiration: Meet Dee Dee Ross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Dee Ross.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was in the Military for 13 years. As a kid, I always loved doing hair and wanted to work as a stylist. My parents did not think that would’ve been a good road for me and convinced me to go to school for graphic design. So after High School in 2003, I went to The Ohio State University. School was not for me and decided to join the Military in 2005. I started in the Air Force as a cop then went to the Army in 2008 as a Human Resources Specialist. I found that my career in the Army soon skyrocketed. Towards the end, my heart was not in it anymore and the environment was toxic. I ETS’d in 2018 and it was finalized in 2019. Soon after my release, I went to cosmetology school and began my journey to fulfill a childhood dream. I received my license in March of 2020, bounced around a couple of salons until I found one, I believe I will excel in and would be good for my career. I’m excited and hopeful for what this year will bring. My ultimate goal is to work in TV and film. I believe anything is possible and I will achieve it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were definitely some challenges. The first school I went to was a problem and they were more about the money than the students. I was expelled two weeks before I was supposed to graduate. if you’re vocal and speak up against things you see wrong, you become a target and they would try to push you out. I transferred to Daytona State College to finish. There were days where I wanted to give up, but one of my only friends, Dusti, from the other school kept me sane and motivated. If it wasn’t for her and the last little spark I had left, I would’ve given up.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed hairstylist and I live for vivid colors and blonding (highlights, balayage). It’s so satisfying watching the process and seeing the huge change. It makes me feel good knowing that I’m helping someone feel good about their hair. I’m very energetic and randomly sing during the service or I crack jokes. I like to make sure the people sitting in my chair are comfortable and laughing the whole time.
