Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Centeno.
Hi Destiny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I found a passion for makeup at 13 and started getting hired for weddings, sweet sixteen, proms, and homecomings by age 15. By 16 I knew for sure that this was the career I wanted to pursue. I loved being great at something and seeing the looks on people’s faces by helping them accomplish looks they couldn’t create themselves. My senior year of high school I did dual enrollment for the esthetics program at technical college and graduated high school with my state license. I spent all the money I was making at my job at chick fil a on supplies and equipment and my mom was amazing enough to let me turn a section of our apartment living room into a work area. I would work my full-time job and come home to take clients in my house sometimes until as late as 1 am. I worked in a few amazing spas and studios, and a few not-so-great ones as well. But my experiences taught me that I wanted to be own boss and how I wanted to run my business. Now at 21, I work independently in a remodeled home-based studio with the most amazing clientele ever and this is still only the beginning!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing great ever comes easy, there were times I came home crying to my mom from the hardships I went through working for others, telling her how badly I wanted to work on my own. There were times I had no place to work and had to only perform travel services, lugging my heavy lash bed and supplies in and out of strangers’ homes. Around that same time, I got into 2 back-to-back car accidents which unfortunately didn’t give me much of an option but to go back to working under someone else.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I currently offer over 15 different services with lash extensions being my main specialty. I also do facials, waxing, various brow services, body sculpting, booty lifting, bridal and event makeup, teeth whitening, nails, and more! I definitely believe this is what sets me apart from others, I am constantly learning and adding services to my list and continuing to perfect my craft. I would also say that as a lash artist I pride myself in my versatility, being able to create the most natural to the most dramatic lash sets according to my client’s wishes is super important in this industry and keeps my clientele range very diverse
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is being able to feel grateful for where you’re at but also knowing that your greatest potential is yet to reached. Success to me is continuous growth, once you start to get complacent where you’re at and stop progressing you leave room for your mind to get lazy and limit your potential. I feel like I am successful because the greatest is yet to come for me but I am also extremely happy with how far I have already come.
