Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Nixon
Hi Devin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I played football in high school with dreams of going to the NFL, but as time passed, I discovered a new passion that would ultimately change the course of my life. My barber journey started between 2012 and 2015 when my mom, who was my first barber, would cut my hair. She did a good job, but I often found myself wanting a fresher fade than she could give, so I started cutting my own hair. As I practiced, my skills improved, and I quickly became obsessed with watching haircut transformation videos. Every day, I got better.
What began as cutting my own hair grew into cutting friends’ hair, and before I knew it, I was cutting hair for all my football teammates. When I got to college, my passion for barbering grew even stronger. I watched more tutorials, practiced more, and started cutting even more people. By my sophomore year, I was cutting everyone on campus—teachers, coaches, teammates—anyone who needed a cut. My dorm or apartment became a makeshift barbershop with people waiting their turn.
As my football career came to an end, my focus shifted. I made the decision to pursue barbering professionally in 2018, stepping into a real barbershop for the first time. Fast forward to now, I started social media in 2023 and has completely transformed my career. After starting to post content a year ago, my clientele skyrocketed, and now I’m booked months in advance. I genuinely love what I do. Every day, I’m excited to go to work—whether it’s cutting hair, creating content, or meeting people from all walks of life, from kids to lawyers, doctors, and professional athletes. What started as a passion is now my career, and it’s been life-changing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In 2020, football came to an abrupt end when COVID hit, canceling many of my plans and opportunities. While it was a tough decision to either keep pursuing it or let go of something I had played my whole life, I realized my passion for the game had faded. Though I had great memories, lasting connections, and met incredible people, the road ahead became much clearer once I fully embraced my true passion—barbering.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a full-time barber, content creator, and real estate agent, specializing in transformation videos that showcase the power of a fresh haircut. I take pride in helping people feel like a brand new version of themselves, boosting their confidence with every cut. What sets me apart is that I genuinely care about how my clients look when they sit in my chair, and I’m dedicated to improving their appearance in a way that makes them feel their best.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was active in sports, which made me very social and helped me build a strong circle of friends. I also enjoyed spending time with family, watching movies, and playing video games—those were my favorite hobbies.
