Today we’d like to introduce you to Doc Anthony Bravo.
Hi, Doc Anthony; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story of how I got here is interesting. From birth until 2013, my career went up; I made a name for myself on the independent circuit with my music. Everything changed on June 9th, 2013; I experienced a life-changing event. In my sleep, my heart stopped beating any other day, and I wouldn’t be here today. The stars aligned that night because my best friend and roommate, who happened to be an EMT, were home that night. My best friend was the one who noticed I wasn’t breathing, and my roommate kept CPR going until paramedics showed up. It took time off to recover from this event. Around 2016, I started writing again; at first, I started writing lyrics, and occasionally, I’d write short stories. In 2018, I finally got my music on all major streaming platforms like Apple Music, Google Play, and Spotify. I couldn’t have done any of that without the help of an extraordinary person named Maryann Gale. She worked for MTV and was a SAG member. I told her about my music when we first met and loved what she heard. She said she’d help me, and she kept her word. In 2021, Maryann found one for my short story script and asked if I would ever consider becoming a screenwriter. I needed to improve, but Maryann always believed in me; she told me to keep writing short story scripts, and he’d help structure them. Unfortunately, on June 8th, Maryann died an untimely death, and after that, I fell into a year-long depression. I don’t want to write anymore, I don’t want to do music anymore, and I don’t want to continue filmmaking. After a while, I realized Maryann wouldn’t want me to give up because she was no longer with me. Maryann motivated me to continue my filmmaking journey and get better with every project I put out.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
In the beginning, I didn’t need to figure out where to start; it was a lot of trial and error, and no one would want to be involved in my projects because I had no previous work. Creditability will be a significant obstacle once you start making a name for yourself.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an emergency management dispatcher. As a dispatcher, I watch camera footage and listen to radio traffic. My job makes me a better filmmaker because I continually look for nuances and continuity issues with visuals and audio. I understand how sound is an essential feature of films and how angles can make or break a scene.
