Daily Inspiration: Meet Elaine Hoxie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elaine Hoxie.

Hi Elaine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I would say that my story began in college at WMU. All I knew was dance and it was there that I truly discovered what I could do and accomplish through dance. It was then that I fell in love with fitness and health, and helping and inspiring others on their journey. Now, dance isn’t where my story ends, but it is a through-line that opened up many doors. It was in college that I met some of the most talented and influential humans in my life and many are still in my life 20 plus years later. After college, I was a little confused and not really sure what to do next so Orlando it was. “I’ll go dance at Disney”, I thought. And yes, there were moments of dancing at Disney and at Universal (along with several local dance companies) I knew that I was destined for more. My last two jobs in Orlando were a national print ad for Tupperware and a national commercial for Party City. That taste of what was possible made me hungry for me. With my dogs and whatever could fit in my car, I made the adventure to L.A. This marks a poignant moment in my life. I was terrified. I had no clue what I was doing. But…I knew I had to do it. I look back on that often, especially when I am scared and unsure in life. L.A. quickly felt like home and to this day, it still does. I had quite the life there. And whenever I doubt how far I’ve come and what I’ve done in my life, I take a glance at my resume and am reminded. From Lucent Dossier and Little Miss Nasty to working with Wisin, Limp Bizkit, 21 Pilots, Pink, and so many more. Stunt work, acting, and dancing. Life was good. Yet again, I needed change. I moved to Las Vegas, where I did several show contracts. While having a great time, making great money, and making lifelong friends, it was here that my soul was being crushed. Doing the same thing every day, being told I needed to lose weight to work, that I needed to fit into a certain mold, feeling as if I was getting a bit too old for “this”. Something was missing and I took a solo trip to Costa Rica which changed my life. I gained a new perspective and knew that I wanted to help others. It was then that fitness began to take over my life and I wanted women specifically to feel good- mind, body, and soul. I created The Live In Love Movement Experience, an opportunity for women to connect. To feel seen and heard. To use their bodies as instruments to create change within- through dance, stretch, meditation, and so much more. Because of some major life changes, I decided to change up the scenery once again, finding myself back in Orlando. Here I challenged myself to meet new people, do new things, and experience Orlando in a way I hadn’t previously. The desire to help and inspire others grew and I became a barre instructor at Bam Barre and a cycling instructor at CycleBar. I’ve continued to develop Live In Love and have big plans for the near future. My brand, Feeling Foxy, has been steadily growing and it’s become so fulfilling to help others tap into their sensual side through dance. I still perform all over, in many disciplines and I just feel so at peace now. I’m doing the things I love. I’m helping others. I’m finding balance in life and I’m no longer searching for the next.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. I would consider it more of a roller coaster. So many highs and so many lows. I got very comfortable operating that way, and the middle is a weird place for me. My biggest challenge through my adult life has been allowing fear to control me. I have a tattoo on my ribs that says “death to fear”. It’s just an everyday reminder to myself. Sometimes fear is exactly what we need. Face it and overcome it.

I also sometimes feel that the things that I do are so over-saturated. Like…everyone is doing this so why should I. Or the I’m not good enough talk. But I’ve discovered that I will resonate with some people but not everyone. Those that are supposed to find me the will and I have to trust that.

There have also been financial struggles, especially while living in L.A., like eating dollar store ramen every day or scoops of peanut butter for meals. It makes me appreciate that dinner out so much more now. I would spend my last few dollars to train rather than eat.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am first and foremost a performer. I perform, choreograph, and produce shows around the country. I help run Orlando’s first Burlesque school, The Burlesque Conservatory, and I lead my Feeling Foxy classes at various studios around town, as well as in private sessions catered to my client’s goals and needs. I also lead women’s workshops, through my company Live In Love. My main focus is helping women feel good about themselves. To inspire them to live fully, without fear, to walk through life with confidence and joy. I aim to help them rediscover themselves and to tap into their sensual side. Dance and movement have always been a crucial part of my life and how I’ve healed through so much, that I like others to experience it as well. When others see me perform or teach when they see what I do, what I’ve done, they can’t imagine I suffer from anxiety, or that I am scared, or that I don’t always feel good enough. I think one of the biggest things in life is to feel like we aren’t alone. Sometimes it’s difficult to face the struggles or to even heal and move on from them because we feel that no one else can understand. But in reality, most of us do face the same things, and the more that we can hold each other, stand with each other, support one another, and listen to each other, the better off we will be. Whether it be in my Live In Love workshops, my Feeling Foxy classes, or my fitness classes my goal is to make my clients feel good- mind, body, and soul.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the people. It really is a beautiful place because of the people. I’m also a huge…yep…Disney person. I love having that available to me at any time. I also love being near so much water. Water has always been my happy place. I would love some better nightlife. After living in L.A. for some time, music was such a part of my life. You could walk anywhere down the sunset strip and just stroll into an amazing show. I miss that. Also, the I4 traffic and crazy drivers.

She is a beautiful soul and shines through inside and out. I have been watching her perform for 30+ years and I am her number one fan. I’m her Dad and couldn’t possibly love and admire her more.
