Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric San Germano.
Hi Eric, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all began 36 years ago as I was finishing college at FIT in NYC, I took a job at high end flower shop driving a delivery van and pushing a broom behind designers. I knew nothing about flowers. Ironically, FIT is down the street from the NY Wholesale Flower Market and I ended up there for the next four years in my career that I didn’t know was my future. In the flower market, NYC’s top event designers were our customers and I started working on weekends helping setup events and that’s how I learned the industry and design. In NY I was able to work and freelance for the very best designers and over the years, learned tie good and the bad from the companies I’ve worked for. I started my own event designers firm in 1998 and was doing well then 9/11 happened and events died for a period as we adjusted to the new norm post 9/11. I moved to Brasilia, the capitol of Brazil where I opened my business there and did some amazing events there. Came back to the US (Florida) and worked for some large event companies in Orlando and Palm Beach until December of 2017, I took a leap and decided to open ESG DESIGN and serve Orlando, the rest of Florida and we have clients that hire us to travel all around the US. So generally speaking, I should have been a Textile Designer in the fashion industry and went astray. You can say the floral and event design chose me instead of me choosing it but I truly love what I do and it shows in ever event de deliver and clients we touch.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, far from smooth. In all honesty, if it were easy, it wouldn’t be as amazing as it is. Bring me a challenge and I’ll make a quick analysis of left, right, or straight ahead. It’s almost a roll of the dice at times with calculated decisions. But struggles? Let’s say I built what I have with zero capital and I’m very proud of my achievements and I didn’t do it alone. My team has my back every time and I’m very fortunate to have an exceptional team in my orbit. Let me not forget the gratitude to the few local event professionals that I work with that also have given me support.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, as a creative in the event industry I pride myself on listening to my clients. What is their vision? What do they want from their event design? For me, I listen carefully and I deliver not just a design, but I deliver an experience and every client that we’ve worked with has been 210% satisfied.
