Daily Inspiration: Meet Ezel Kendrick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezel Kendrick.

Hi Ezel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been cooking all my life it’s always been a passion of mine. When I went to prison I had to learn how to cook using different methods that would allow the food to cook including what we call the stinger. When I came home from prison I thought I was going to open my business for home remodeling and fire water and mold but as that wasn’t working out and didn’t have all the information and experience that I needed I was cooking for my then girlfriend at home and family and friends and quickly was told that this is something I should pursue and that is how baby in the kitchen was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been very challenging lost my location due to competition and things that I didn’t know people who hated on my dream who never thought I could pull this together even two short years after being released from prison doing a 10 year sentence! I have a brand new truck I offer great food I have so many repeat customers. I’ve had the ups and downs of employees and food costs and trying to find a new location and balancing home and work life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Here at baby in the kitchen we offer fresh food that’s not loaded with salt or other additives but season to perfection we offer everything from fried fish to wings to burgers to cheesesteaks and on the weekends we do barbecue, baked chicken, turkey wings collard greens homemade mac and cheese and many many other items including our baby cakes with fresh fruit on top.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I was incarcerated for the last decade and told I would never be anything or have anything but I’ve always had a very creative mind and I like to consider myself an innovator I have many different business ideas that I can’t wait to share with the world
