Today we’d like to introduce you to Farah Mohammad.
Hi Farah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
When I first started my Instagram page I really did not think much of it. I always knew that I had a love for Disney, and it truly was my happy place but had I known that it would take me to where I am today, I would have started earlier. Let’s take it back to the beginning. My mom was a major Disney fan, and naturally, she passed that along to her children. I was so lucky and fortunate enough to have gone to Disneyland countless times, even though I am from Seattle.
There is certain nostalgia and love that Disney holds for me. It reminds me of my childhood, innocence, and wonder, and every time I step through the gates those feelings come right back. I believe this is why we all fall in love with the magic of Disney. It’s more of a feeling than anything else. I had always known I wanted to work for Disney, with Disney, or the Disney world in any aspect I could, but I didn’t know-how. If I’m honest I didn’t even know what DCP was when I was in college. Once the pandemic hit, and I was short of work, I was thinking about ways I could have a side hustle. This is where the magic began. I initially decided I was going to be a travel agent that specialized in Disney.
So I took all the courses and I got my license, and all my education and I knew it was time to promote myself. So I started an Instagram page! Within a week of having my page and dedicating time to posting every day, I realized how much I loved content creation. I actually decided from that point on I was going to be a Disney Content Creator. So although I started to promote myself being a travel agent, I decided that I wanted to go a completely different route. It has come so naturally, within a week I hit 100 followers, and within a month I had hit over 600. It felt so amazing to be validated for my work.
Here I am at six months spreading magic, and coming into my own place in the Disney Instagram community with almost 4 thousand followers! But beyond those numbers. I have made the most beautiful connections and friendships with some of the most wonderful people, which just speaks volumes about the Disney community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Any journey has its bumps in the road. As a content creator for a Disney-themed Instagram page, the biggest obstacle I face is my location. I don’t live right down the street from the Disney parks, or have an annual membership, If I am lucky and plan accordingly I can maybe make it to the parks twice a year.
But since this is all new, I don’t have a stockpile of photos of me in different outfits at the parks, I haven’t gone to the parks with being a content creator in mind. The majority of my content would naturally not going be park photos, but more creative posts and reels. How was I going to do this, and how was I going to stand out? These were questions I still ask myself every day. I filmed silly little reels in my bathroom using my shower curtain as a backdrop or propping my phone on the window sill. It’s all a learning process, and everything takes time and growth.
I actually just bought myself a proper ring light phone stand this week, and I feel like it has been a total game-changer. Coming up with unique, fun, and engaging content has been difficult. Especially, when I am so limited in location and magic. But that’s when you learn to make your own magic. I also work, so finding a balance has been a challenge too. But when you have your priorities, you definitely find a way to make them a priority.
It’s not a question of, “Can I make it work?” It’s all about how you make it work and how you choose to problem solve when faced with bumps in the road.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In the real world, I work as a licensed esthetician at a small local spa. I absolutely love my career, and how I am able to help people with their skin, and just feel relaxed and more beautiful. The most fun part is I have been incorporating my knowledge of skincare and the beauty world in more and more posts.
The newest series on my Instagram page is creating magical beauty routines based on different characters. It has really pushed me to be more creative, and honestly learn more about both sides of my work field, that being the world of esthetics and social media. It’s really fun to share knowledge that I went to school for, in a way that serves my passions. I always break out of my comfort zone. Doing this is unique, and I haven’t seen any creator do this before, so it’s new.
I always ask myself, am I doing this right? Is this the best way I could be presenting this? But I allow myself grace because it’s all about creativity. There’s no box to how things should look and it’s all trial and error with what will be successful.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I think the biggest thing I would want someone reading this to take away is that if you are thinking about starting a page, just do it. You don’t need anything but time, and passion.
You don’t need fancy equipment, you don’t need to be a world traveler. But with enough creativity and passion, you can go places. You don’t even have to tell your friends and family about it.
Most of mine don’t even know I have my page, this so I can feel as creative as I want without fear of judgment, and I really think that has helped me a lot personally
