Today we’d like to introduce you to Francesca Tarantino.
Hi Francesca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
At a very young age, I fell in love with music thanks to my parents who were always playing classic rock or rock of some sort. They tell me I was always singing. In second grade there was a school talent show and I decided to sing “Rock and Roll All Nite” by KISS. That was my first experience ever on a stage singing by myself. Then, we moved from Pennsylvania to Florida where I decided to get involved in Musical Theatre. It was in 4th grade I auditioned for my first musical and started to take singing lessons. I stayed in musical theatre for 4 years and had a great time and had some pretty cool roles. But I really wanted to start writing music and being more of an artist. I began taking guitar lessons 3 years ago and joined an Artist Development Program at Dreamwalker Music Evolution in Orlando (DME ORLANDO). At DME I take guitar, voice, songwriting, and overall performance coaching. I also get to record in a studio there and practice live with a band. I’ve progressed so much there and have co-written some songs. And my debut single, “My Runaway” is out now on all streaming platforms!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. Many bumps I’ve learned to deal with. When I was in musical theatre, I had major stage fright and wouldn’t even let my mom and dad watch me when I would sing. Then making the transition from singing as a character on stage to singing and playing guitar as an artist in front of people was really difficult. I found it hard to talk to the audience and was worried about what people would think. I still get nervous, but practicing has made it easier, and definitely just being myself no matter what!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter and musician who performs in and around Central Florida. At 14, I am most known for the type of music I perform. I love rock and all types of it! I think it surprises people to learn that I’m only 14 because I sing and play a lot of classic rock music. I’m also learning some lead guitar riffs and adding more electric guitar to my set lists. My most proud moment was when I sang the National Anthem at a Miami Marlins game in July 2022. I’ve also sung it at local races (marathons) and at the Relay for Life Cancer Society event in Winter Park. I think what sets me apart is the different music I play. In my set list, you could hear anything from The Beatles to The Weeknd or Eagles to Paramore. It’s a very mixed variety. Oh and I have my original music too which I’m really proud of.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Well, everyone knows I love rock music, but some may not know that KISS is my favorite band. It’s not something you hear a 14-year-old girl say very much.
