Daily Inspiration: Meet Gabriela Sofia Perez-baba

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Sofia Perez-baba

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started off taking pictures on a digital camera that I always kept in my purse. I would bring it to bars and parties and post them on @gibbyslens like a photo diary. I had so many creative concepts I wanted to do so I tried modeling but that didn’t feel right at all. My boyfriend had a Canon Rebel T7 he never used and gave it to me so I thought to get behind the camera and see how that felt. I instantly loved the whole process of photography and creative directing and began posting photo shoots I did with my friends on @gibbyslens! Once I posted my work, I began getting approached by events, brands, and models and took every single opportunity to get as much practice in. This led to me finding my style and doing what I love with people who love my work!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been easy in the slightest but the rewards are worth it! Being someone who works with a creative medium, it’s easy to not see the value in it, have people that truly just don’t like what you do, and live in comparison. As I’ve grown and talked to more photographers, videographers, and creative people in general, I find that a common theme to get over these struggles is acknowledging how proud you are of your work and not seeing your work how others perceive it. You are the only one who saw the effort and work through the creative process start to finish and at the end of the day, it’s yours so you don’t have to cater to everyone! I think with small businesses you look at numbers and sales to point you towards growth, but I’ve learned that the way you make people feel, and in my case, the confidence I get to give people is worth a lot more to me and is what I want myself and gibbyslens to be known for!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a female photographer based out of Orlando, Florida! I have worked with brands and events but also do portfolio and portrait work. My style is editorial and creative with lots of color, high contrast, and fun angles. I am most proud of making people who otherwise wouldn’t even think of doing modeling, feel comfortable and confident with a photoshoot that displays their personality the best. I think that sets me apart from others because I try to collaborate the best I can to bring something to the table that I am not only proud of for my portfolio, but they will also be proud to look at and share!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I tend to be a homebody even though I am very social and LOVE doing events! After events I need to spend days at home with my two cats recharging, editing, and watching American Horror Story!
