Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Scorza
Gina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was pregnant with my second child, I was eager to find a way to support my family financially while still being home to enjoy time with my newborn. In addition to that stress, this pregnancy was causing me so many issues: migraines, restless legs, muscle pain, sleep issues, anxiety and fatigue. I was a hot mess!
After multiple trips to the doctor, it seemed like my only solution was prescription medications that had a whole laundry list of side effects. I wasn’t willing to risk my health or the health of my unborn child. I needed a better way.
As fate would have it, an acupuncturist urged that I try topical magnesium. My symptoms dramatically improved after just one use. My leg cramps were gone, I was sleeping, my migraines faded, my anxiety diminished, my mood calmed and my back pain improved.
Amazed at what magnesium was doing for me, I began reading and learning everything I could about this magic mineral and developed a cream that would help people get more magnesium into their system. Friends and family were blown away by the results – no more pains, cramps or headaches.
I started out doing local farmer’s markets, then got into some bigger shows around the state and even picked up local retailers to retail my products.
I knew if I wanted to help more people feel better and thrive, I’d need to get this business out of my kitchen.
That’s when a local manufacturer was found who was able to replicate my formula without having to add any chemicals or synthetics to it. I was blessed to grow very quickly and began to explore a product line that includes full spectrum CBD as well as magnesium, incorporating two incredibly beneficial ingredients in one. I will be celebrating 10 years in business this March!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have always said this has been a roller coaster ride with no safety belt! With never running a business before, there has been a lot of trial and error. I’ve lost money, I’ve had a business partner and even that went south. Thought I was going to lose my business during that process. The biggest thing is my heart and my passion to help people, I know that is why I’ve been able to maintain this for the last 10 years. It’s definitely taking a lot of perseverance and determination to not give up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Before I started my business, I was in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. I’ve run restaurants, clubs, bars, worked in hotels, events and catering. I always said I got paid to socialize and I loved it. I’m a people person, I enjoy connecting and being of service.
After I had my 2nd child, I knew that profession was not conducive to me being a mom anymore. I still wanted to do something that helped others but didn’t know where to begin. So when I was introduced to topical magnesium and it changed my life, I knew I found my thing.
What sets me apart is my products are very clean; meaning minimal ingredients and all organic. No chemicals, no synthetics, no preservatives even. Vegan friendly.
I am proud I never gave up, even through some of the most challenging aspects of almost losing it all, I never gave up. This business, these products are like one of my children.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Learn as much as you can about your industry. Don’t be afraid to take a risk. Know your strengths and your weaknesses. If your hearts in it and you love it, it will work out. Believe in yourself, your mission and purpose.
I wish I knew more about the backend of the business, the administrative aspects. I’m the creative, so I wish I would have knew to hire someone that could assist in the areas that are not my wheelhouse. Probably would have saved me a lot of frustration and even money.
